I know this is an older video, but I wanted to say it is so relateable for me, since I also dress simply and don’t fool with much in the way of make-up (lip balm and mascara if I’m feeling fancy!). I am a fan of merino wool for all the reasons you mentioned, and I pack black bottom layers only so every top layer goes with every bottom layer. Also, this way I only need black shoes. I really enjoy your gentle sense of humor!

Like your suggestions. Mine routine is similar. If I take jeans, I take 1 pair of old jeans, and old nightwear, and underwear that I leave in the trash which makes room for something new that I purchase. Everything matches but I am colorful. I always have a theme. Black or jean bottoms and colorful ( red or blue) tops that go with everything - 2 long or 3/4 pants, 1 skirt, 1 dress snd 6 tops & a sweater. I put my puff jacket in a travel pillow cover. It works as an ok pillow, doesn’t have to fit in my case😂, and I have reasonable warmth if I need it. I don’t usually do shorts as they are often socially unacceptable (in many countries). An additional pair of shoes is essential. Also I’m older. Been traveling the world ( mostly Asia and Europe) with just a carryon for more than 50 years. My husband takes 2 pants plus the one he wears. 2 shorts if the climate is mild. Another pair of shoes, and 5 shirts. We can pack and unpack in 15 minutes.

I found a few ways to reduce what i travel with. I don't wear traditional women's underwear, i buy what is called in America "smoothing shorts" almost like spanks but absolutely NOT compression type undergarments. They are more along the lines of bike shorts only made out of underwear material. They are perfect for sleeping in because they are long, like bike shorts, and very comfortable. I travel with tshirts as well but find that athletic type tshirts, not cotton, are very quick drying, almost totally wrinkle free, and come in amazing colors. Most sporting goods type retailers carry them and they also come in long sleeves. Lastly, also at most sporting goods type retailers, i buy what's called "fishing" pants. They are typically made from quick dry fabric and have lots of pockets. Perfect for fishing because you get wet. I have one pair that has zip on/off legs so you can turn them into shorts. They are amazing and also mostly wrinkle free. All these items can be washed in a sink and will be dry in the morning because of the fabric. I mostly wear neutral colors so everything is mix and match. Even in summer i travel with a very light weight cardigan that doubles as a bathing suit coverup so i can wear it out to eat or sightseeing in the evening and also wear it during the day or at the beach. I have little sun/beach dress made out of crinkle gauze that has lots of wrinkles but is what cotton gauze fabric looks like anyway so it doesn't matter and is as light as air. If it's been rolled up in my backpack for two days it won't matter.

I just wantwd to share a bit of my storyy of late. I am from the U.S. and was traveling in Portugal with my husband for a month this last month. In the last week he became ill which led ro a visit to the emergency room in the middle of the night while on the island of Terciera in the Azores. He was not admitted but spent the next 5 days in bed with fever, chills, exhaustion. Thanks to antibiotics he started improving so we could travel home. It was such a stressful time. And we had to cancel flight and reservations and make new ones. Unfortunately he has relapsed since coming home two days ago. I kept thinking about you and what you went through with your husband being in a foreign land. I hope he continues to heal.

The one clothing item I always bring, is this thin, black, wool/silk, knit wrap dress, that I just love. ❤️ It can be worn at a fancy restaurant, and it is comfy when going hiking. It has endless layering possibilities such as: As an underwear slip, as a "skirt" if I layer it with a blouse/sweater, as a "wrap top" if I layer it with a skirt, office formal with a button up shirt below, or casual with a summer top or T-shirt below. Oh, and it can also be used as an open cardigan. And depending if I wear with without tights, or with neutral or colourful tights, I have even more simple options for variety with this one dress. Oh, and since it is thin merino/silk, it keeps me warm in the cold, and temperated in warmer weather, and it takes several days before it starts to smell. And it dries quickly after a wash. Only downside to it is that it must be handwashed. But I once wore it for an entire week in Florence. I washed the armpits only after two and four days, and washed it after five days. And I was smell-free the entire time.

I am loving your content. Multifunctional clothing is useful. Have underwear that can pass as exercise wear AND as swimwear. Loose pants or shorts that can be used as pyjamas or clothing. A piece of fabric that can pass as a sarong, emergency towel, shawl or travel blanket- this could also be a bit of colour on a ‘safe’ colour palette. One loose cotton shirt can dress up plain layers, be sun protection or work like a light jacket..Compression cubes great idea for less used items, eg swimwear or jacket. Dirt company in Australia also sells a travel size fabric spray designed to break down of odors and minimize washing. Tani also makes thin, incredibly comfortable layers which are great for those who tend to overheat. Perfect comfort for air travel. The washing tips in your other video were perfect!

Yes to all! With the denim shorts, it's ok that they take time to dry because you could probably wear for 7-10 days before they would need a wash, as long as your underwear are fresh. I wear my jeans many times before they start looking grungy. 💗

I’ve learned so much from your wonderful videos, but I’m 75 and we cruise, no shorts, but lite leggings, and try to pack as you do in a 19” roller suitcase plus back pack….kinda do a 2-3-6 method. 2 shoes, 3 slacks, 6 tops plus small compression bag with 2 silky tops and 2 silk scarves to wear on dressy nights). I also use a VeraBradley pillow….cut out the travel blanket inside and stuff it with extras that come in handy and still use it on long flights. Found an X-Large storage bag at Dollar store and use as a make shift washing machine while in shower, wring out, hang dry. I’ve viewed loads of videos and yours it’s the most helpful! Great job, safe travels and thank you so much. Blessings to you.

Also I needed to hear that someone also only takes one bra on them. I have very unusual size and it's expensive so I overall own one bra 😅

Thank you so much, it's one of the most underrated place to visit in Italy still has so many wonderful things it's difficult to list some! If you like mountain you've probably heard of Sila, tons of green and nature, if you visit the "giganti della Sila" (Giants of Sila mountain) there are some very old trees, more than one hundred years old, basically wherever in Sila is amazing, there are very good tips on the internet. If you prefer sea instead, Tropea, Pizzo, Scilla, Le Castella are famous, there's a fairytale atmosphere all around, with castles and tiny neighborhoods overhanging the clean waves; as our food is from another planet, you've probably had a taste of our 'nduja (if you're not vegetarian), a spicy meat cream, and for sweetness ask for a slice of pittanchiusa or pitta 'mpigliata, is an ancient dessert made with honey, raisins and almonds... Wish you the best memories from the trip 🤗

I love the hat...maybe not the pattern, but I have a similar one (different pattern) and it's *brilliant*. I wear it so much that I really need to buy another one, but all the new hats I get, which look ok online, have a brim that is a much too short or the circumference is too tight or too loose. How do you manage dirty clothes as you're going? I don't like packing my dirty stuff with my clean stuff. that's ok if I'm staying at one place for a few days, bit when I'm on the move, I always try to keep everything clean (so I hand wash each night, which makes quick-dry very important. I'm in the no-jean's camp when I travel. I pay top dollars to buy a really good pair of travel trousers that are easily hand washable and dry easily too. I usually go for black or steel-grey because it goes with most colours. Blue is my colour for making everything mix and match.

I travel extremely minimally, and like you have a “standard list” that covers about 90% of my needs… the other 10% varies based on location. But here’s where I struggle, and I have yet to see a video or read a blog that addresses this adequately… what about bras? I saw that you stated you just bring the one t-shirt bra, but from your video it seems that you are similarly large-chested as I am. How do you get by with just one bra? And what options do you recommend? Most female minimalist packing videos seem to be by women who can probably easily go bra-less or with just a bandini… but gravity is real, so I’m looking for other suggestions / ideas.
@leapintothewild2 жыл бұрын
DITTO!! Mature (ie gravity issue) 38DD here, so I have to wear structured bras with underwire, and they take up a lot more room and more time to dry than the itty bitty bralettes that so many travel vids feature… 🤷♀️

Frame of reference: Woman, not so minimal at home (in transition to that), believe in personal style over fashion, often need a nicer option, usually fly. I vastly prefer personal item only. I can use cabin baggage, but I’d rather not. I have a rule to always have the swim kit, as I’d much rather swim than have gym time in a trip). So, like you, Maggi, I think in terms of packing for X days and washing. The people in the second, third, fourth location have no idea what I wore in the last place. Likely I don’t remember! My swim kit is a pair of shorts meant to be hike and swim, a top with support. Both can be in my wearing cycle if needed. Usually, I let the swim top be a layer, rather than a “tank top” because I’m rather modest. Heaviest clothing and shoes on plane, along with a layer and big scarf. For “pack three days” In a cube, two additional bottoms (skirts and light weight trousers), three additional tops, and a layer. If a dress will fit, it comes along. Extended trips might get one more of each. I don’t bother with PJs or lounge wear (a term that didn’t exist in my childhood). I pack baselayers, and they fill both spots **if needed**, and do for chilly locations. (Winter gets heavier baselayers and an extra set as I believe in wear a day, air a day. Jeans only get to go as travel day wear. They aren’t in the pack. If that pack needs to be moving place to place, the jeans are on. Two bras, three to five undies. One pair of socks unless the destination is snowy. Then, two. A dry bag for laundry collection, then as washing space. Shoes: Usually, travel day plus one other. Climate dependent. I hike in barefoot shoes in most terrain. Xero sandals are my go to. Toiletries: solid shampoo, conditioner, soap. An spf CC cream for my face. SPF Lotion for body. Deodorant. Rollerball of essential oil blends, diluted. Toothbrush, paste dots, mouthwash concentrate. Tinted lip balm (rather than a plain and a lip color). Maybe mascara. I have hand lotion in my pockets at all times by habit. I use a richer one traveling as it will do for feet and body. Everything gets decanted into smaller containers. I carry a phone, an e reader, four way charging cord, battery bank (nite Ize, lightweight and small). Some trips I’ll need to work, so I bring my tablet then. I have a tiny art set with watercolors, pens, paper. The paints fit a mint tin. I bring three pens, three brushes that hold water, and a notebook or several small sheets of watercolor paper. All in a 28L with extra room. A water bottle, hat, and grocery bag fit in the outer pockets, or clip on. If rain is an issue at the destination, I might buy a cheap umbrella there, or bring a rain jacket. I keep a pack cover in my pack.

Where did you get your Merinoshirts from? I am thinking about trying one this year, but the high competition makes the choice far more complicated.
@MaggiFuchs9 ай бұрын
I also struggle finding good Merino T-Shirts… It is soooo difficult to just find normal looking T-Shirts in a normal length in a normal color without huge logos for women. I am not insisting on 100% merino anymore, but I dislike the ones where they add too much „elastane“ and then it hugs all my curves in all the wrong places. But some brands spin some polyester or tencel together with the merino into the yarn, and then it seems to me the T-Shirts „last“ longer and are easier to care for. I had good luck with T-Shirts from Houdini, Icebreaker and Mons Royale in the past. Maybe I do another video about that… there‘s a lot to say! 😂 If you ever find a good brand, please let me know.
