Great overview. I remember the game well and truly enjoyed it back in the day. The terrain transformation was incredible back in the day. Funny to look at the game now after so many years. I still have the original discs. The sound effects bring back fond memories too, including the mana grabbing sounds.

I played this a looooong time ago as a kid, watching this video is bringing back some memories. It actually looks like it could have some very fun and dynamic multiplayer if it was remade today.

This game still looks amazing to this day. I think 1995 was the peak of game graphics. Now a days , games are not really games but they are just playable movies..

This was from the time where games where adventurous, mystical and "cant not stop playing feeling" magic carpet series is on my top 10 along with games like Doom, Dune2, Battlezone1 and 2. Sadly games today is dumbed down so there is a bigger market, games almost play themself today

Excellent overwiev of the game. This is a great educations for those who haven't played this game before. MC2 is one of my faveovirte dos games and it's a great upgrade on the first part. I'm happy to notice that you actually captured this in svga-mode instead of double resizing vga-video. btw. a minor hint. One should always prefer 3rd level lighting for destroying enemy castles. It's a lot more efficient when compared to meteor and firestorm.

I loved this game when it came out and owned both the original and the sequel (which is hugely improved). I re-bought both from Good Old Games (only a few bucks each) and played them (on my Mac, no less!) all weekend. Still hugely fun, even all these years later. I think that a remake would go over quite well these days. The only thing they really need is higher resolution, AA/AF, 3D entities, and a longer draw distance.

Great game, I just finished my playing session a few minutes ago, after accidental ctd but earlier the game was running for 2 - 3 hours without problem... I remember very challenging moments, like when together with 3 other rival wizards we tried to take control over this non harmful mana flying worm. Really unique entertainment :)

Very well done! Great vid:) I am playing Magic Carpet 1 at the moment and waiting for GOG to get MC 2 so I can play that as well. Like yourself I remember how MC blew me away graphics wise when I was younger. Also why is deformable terrain so hard to do these days? Look at MC, MC2, Red Faction 1 and 2. these games are ancient yet we still don't have as much interaction in games like we did. Ah well:)

I sometimes wonder how much of Molyneux's 'brilliance' is based on the Bullfrog team, since his games during the Bullfrog days were vastly more interesting, unique & fun to play than everything Lionhead released. I'd love to see a Bullfrog/Muckyfoot reunion and have them Kickstart a new game that is a spiritual successor (since EA owns all the franchises) to Magic Carpet or any Bullfrog game really.

Peter should have did a remastered, remake of MC1 & MC2 for this generation and completely get rid of the awful Godus. Imagine having 8 player magic carpet battles with all those different spells and you have to protect your castle from the other wizards. The game would be insane. MC2 was very buggy though, but they could easily fix all of that today.

this is the best game of the 1990's sure shot. I actually have a question, how were you able to capture the game in such good quality? i bought it on GOG.com, it runs on DOSBOX but it seems well configured. needs a tweak on mousepseed though. dont forget though to press "P" and options for better resolution and GFX options. and YES. why doesnt people do a HD remake of this? so awesome game. and YES. it HAS multiplayer. thats why you have fake mana and 'transform into monster' spells. definetly the best video on the game out there. good job! ps: if you are a teenager, or havent ever played this game, GO right NOW to GOG.COM, buy the damn thing, and Play it. it will NOT be taken for granted from modern games. Fun factor competes with highend games like GTA series.

yeah, fucking hell. molyneux in the bullfrog era was brilliant - theme park/hospital, syndicate, magic carpet... now he's an egomaniacal hack who hasn't made a decent game in over a decade.

The easiest way is to get D-Fend reloaded and the game (Magic Carpet) from: myabandonware then look for a tutorial online on how to get it to work from there because it wont fit in youtube's tiny box XD
