One of the best performances I have seen. Truly unique, entertaining, funny, and with highly original presentations of your tricks. Bravo, Mark!

In 1958, when I was 15 years old I won 1st place in the amateur contest at Magi-Fest in Columbus, Oh. Local news covered the convention and I was asked to perform live at at their station on the 6 PM news cast that very evening. They wanted me to do "that trick where I stretched the ropes," so I did it live on their station. I was terrified but remember it like it was yesterday. I was demonstrating that very same trick at the convention for a magic shop from Dayton, Ohio. The convention would have about 20 magic dealers from around the U.S. selling their magic supplies. We sold out of the stretching ropes that very night. My boss gave me a $10 bonus. Today, It's called by a different name and I can't remember what it is called. All that being said, Mark does a great job with the trick and has added some great little bits with his version of the stretching ropes... that makes it even more amazing:-) I still do the trick and since I'm 77 years old I don't think Mark will mind if I borrow his ending for a few years. Thanx Mark One other thing Mark, if I'm invited to perform at the Magic Castle I promise I won't do your trick. lol, -keith

Absolutely top hole, thoroughly enjoyed it, young man. If I may, slow it down a touch and COMMAND with a pause, you'll still maintain the momentum,. Timing, my boy, timing. And ditch the dogfood, you do not need to demean yourself, use paté.

On the dog food trick by revealing the card on the certificate, he revealed it was a forced card and made the trick worse. The guy seemed less impressed when he read it.
@igorsvacic2176 жыл бұрын
why it was worse with forced card? It was signed after all, and it was that same card he chose'
@kingrobert1st4 жыл бұрын
Wasn't forced. He palmed it out before he gave the deck to shuffle. He kinda spoilt the effect by finding the dollar first.

Sorry, that carnival barker / snake oil salesman kind of fast paced way of talking where there obviously is no need to hurry is unbearable for me. I know, it's supposed to add to the comedy and it seems to work for a lot of (slightly drunk ?) people, but i think it's such an outdated, obvious gimmick it should stay in the 70's and 80's where it belongs. I had to stop watching at around 4 minutes in, but anyway, maybe that's just me.
@johncowne14425 жыл бұрын
Yep, It’s just you :)
@TheMillionairesMentalist5 жыл бұрын
I had to skip thru parts of it as well. I'm guessing that the habits of hurrying and fast-talking have been carried over from his experience performing either on streets, comedy clubs or difficult venues. I'm sure Mark can handle difficult audiences. However, the Magic Castle is more of a theatrical environment. Now that magic has a proper venue those of us who have the opportunity to perform in those venues should design our acts to those venues. Personally, the thought of pulling objects from a can of dog food is not classy. I loved the glasses effect and the jokes accompanying that routine.
@kingrobert1st4 жыл бұрын
Yes he was not giving you time to take some things in...very nervous act as if he had a train to catch. I used to perform like that when I first started. He started at full pace and continued like that. I try to start at about 40% to 45 % on the energy scale and slowly work my way up to 100% for the finalé.
