Maybe a dumb question because I don't play limited formats on arena, but in late September wouldn't the draft format switch to Duskmourn as their main draft set on the site? Or is there still the option for Bloomburrow drafting?

@@enderplaysvidjagames8542 On release in two weeks it's going to be duskmorne as the always available premier draft, it will be sealed for like 3 weeks and quickdraft duskmourn for like a month, then duskmourn will rotate back and fourth with a random set every 2 weeks and there will be other premier draft sets now and then but duskmourn won't leave. Those are the way I've noticed it happening but it's probably written out specifically somewhere. Edit: Prerelease in paper is in 2 weeks, then it's released a week later on arena for the actual release date

I am not up to date on the format rotations myself but I remember the two most recent sets being draftable always and some flashback events in addition to that. What formats are available for what set is way beyond what I remember from my time. They probably changed it a bunch of times, too. PS: Rarran hating the land system makes me wonder if he would appreciate it more after a vintage cube and more powerful lands coming into the picture. I cannot recommend actually trying it in all honesty because 1. MTGO being ugly as sin 2. The price. 3. A lot of reading and very non-intuitive interactions. 4. The power level being higher than standard and the games being very fast, making it not very beginner friendly. I just saw LSV doing a Yu-Gi-Oh thing and wondered how deep in the rabbit hole we are with the TCGs and I remembered vintage cube.

I think the coyote convo just really goes to show how little people know about coyotes, those things a small scavengers and generally only hunt small rodents. I think people are imagining like a wolf when in reality it’s like the small to medium sized dog. Someone in chat said coyotes are 45 pounds, but that’s the upper limit for what they usually weigh, they are actually 15-45 in general. The sheep bit was double funny because I think a sheep might even be more difficult for a human to kill bare handed than a coyote.

10/10 bat deck - all wins were well-deserved. That wasn't luck, that was skill. 10/10 banter and gooning. 4/10 rat deck - the other 6 points are still awarded for something else: managing to do so many misplays that one of the opponents simply conceded. Honestly, with how much my gut started hurting (watching the misplays), I don't even blame them. (on a more serious note, I just really want to try my hardest and never surrender so I was thinking way too hard on those last 2 matches while Rarran wasn't paying much attention because they were lost games anyways - fair enough - but I wasn't kidding, my gut actually hurts now...)

Draft is the best way to play the game and expand your collection however it gets very pricey if you don’t maintain a high win rate. I usually only play each it to about plat/diamon then let me rank reset. While I’d love to see you try Rarran, getting mythic in draft will be VERY expensive is my guess.

The number of cards rarran dismisses without thought because it's not good in standard is wild. "But the absolute best card in the constructed does the same thing for 2, so I won't have that same premium effect (with potential upside) in my deck for 3 because it's such a bad rate!"

Also a side note about fighting animals - Humans have a disproportionate amount of highly dexterous muscle groupings compared to other animals. This means that humans are disproportionately weak compared to their body mass when you compare them to most other animals. While I agree that Rarran could probably win a fight against a coyote while sustaining some moderate to severe injuries, if the coyote were 100 lbs, I kind of doubt it. I'd give Rarran maybe 1:5 odds of living through that encounter, and something like 1:50 odds of winning.

If you've got disposable income to spend on content, sealed is pretty good, you're at the mercy of your pool a lot but if you're ever going to grind for 8 hours you'd get about twice the games in if you played a few hours of sealed and you get way more cards, if you always get 3 wins it's not so bad but you're going to get dogshit pools every so often so that's really hard, on the flipside it's pretty easy to go 7 wins in sealed when you hit a decent deck because you'll get a couple games for free against unlucky pools. Edit: For when the new set comes out I mean

Sealed is only worth in sets with fixing. If it is a bicolor set is basically a slot machine where the game decide which deck you play

@@firstpersonfeelings5479 Well the pool is always going to decide what deck you should play, the downside is when your pool is so mismatched that the best deck you can make is really quite bad or requires huge luck to run well which is the fixing thing you're talking about I think.

honestly, it could be cool to try a variant where you have no basic lands in the deck but once per turn you could discard a card to play a basic land with the color of one of the colors of the card you discarded. it would be interesting to see if and how it breaks the game

Deck quality is somewhat random, but back when there were big limited tournaments it was always the same people crushing them.

Now sure if he’ll read this but he should know the value of premier draft is way better than quick draft. Also you can infinitely draft if you win enough + you get wildcards and you get to keep the cards you draft :)

Also in limited it’s important to consider that the power level of decks is much lower so something like ruthless negotiation drawing a card later in the game is pretty viable. ALSO you should also consider other potential picks in every pack even if you know what youre taking!

new players DO NOT start out with quick draft for the love of god. it's terrible practice as the bots make wild decisions that real players would never make and cut cards in such a way that you can end up with dysfunctional decks. jump straight into premier draft

Well, as a new player its definetly NOT stressing to read and evaluate 15 Cards in two minutes and seeing the rope flashing to give you extra anxiety. Real players can also draft really wild and you probably cant remember a single card from your first few packs anyway. And while the rewards may be better the entry fee is doubled.

You know what might be a better land system? Passive mana like hearthstone, multi-colour cards like MTG, coloured "land" (or perhaps just cards that have this as an additional effect) you add to your deck doesn't add mana but rather permanently colours one of the passive mana you have. A lot less "land" in the deck, a lot more consistent, keep all the MTG flavour.

If you want to have a real draft experience you should at some point try to learn vintage cube. Standard draft is just such a dry and basic experience in comparison. And as you said you're bound to luck and low power removal, no combo plays, low interaction, basic stuff for late-midrangey curves.
