I don't think a lot of people know this but Bird was playing with a broken right hand when he missed that last second shot against the Lakers. He never used his injuries as an excuse. Especially since this particular injury came from a bar fight.
@Sunny-jz3dy

Bird also had a messed up elbow along with his hand. But the elbow didn't have anything to do with that bar fight! Lol.

If he did use injuries as an excuse, he had a whole bag of excuses he could have used but he never needed them because he always came through whether it was against the pacers game. 5. Or game five against the Pistons or game 7. Against the hogs or four games against the Lakers in '84 or against the 76ers and their seven-game series, I know almost every fact about Larry Bird that that anybody can know

Answer me this Bill Walton of course is full of crap a lot. But how did Larry score 27 points with his left hand? An odd number of points? He didn't shoot a foul shot left-handed he didn't shoot a three-pointer left-handed. I don't think Walton thought his story through before. He just pulled a number out of his butt

@tonyduncan7710 20 pts lefty. 27 points total at the end of the 3rd qtr. " _Bird decided to shoot left-handed (he is_ a _right-handed_ shooter _) most of the game. He finished with 47 points, 14 rebounds, 11 assists in 49 minutes in a 120-119 victory in overtime. Ten of his 34 shots were taken with the left._ " Per Sports Illustrated

@tonyduncan7710 Totally different game but, according to Bob Ryan, he, Ryan, lost a $5 bet to Bird over a left-handed 3. He said Bird tucked the bill into his sock.

Another factor in the missed shot from Larry was the fact he was dealing with an unhealed fracture in his right hand from a bar fight.

That comment by Larry made really laugh when I first heard it, especially in context with what Magic said: Magic: "We thought it would be a seven game series". Larry: "I thought we'd sweep them!" This is Kareem, Magic, Worthy, Cooper (who Larry said was the best defender he ever played agains), etc. He thought he'd sweep them bums. That confidence is well founded since he and the Celtics later swept Jordan's Bulls twice in the playoff. So his boasting wasn't just bravado. Larry always go into the game, taking no prisoners.

@ItsJonJon As a life long Celtic fan it is interesting how in a spiderweb these teams are from the teams of Russell and West to Magic Bird to Pierce Kobe, to Kobe being his favorite player and mentor for Tatum. As this shows they are always the 2 best players of all time, but the beauty is in the friendship as they fell in love with each others games and later the men themselves. I will weep when either passes away, as if I could take ANY Laker it would of been Magic to be a Celtic. Loving your coverage of this amazing showcase for greatness, friendship and the love of basketball and eventually each other. Subbed

It also helped in the 85 season that Bird broke a few fingers in his right hand and his elbow was messed up from something else. Lol. So obviously his shooting suffered. Magic just saying that he had never dealt with anything like it before...... tells me how easy he had had it up until that point! Larry Bird had dealt with a heck of a lot more in his life! His major wake up call in basketball... was the NCAA Championship.

Congratulations on your channel success. I saw this rivalry live. It was great to watch. I was not aware of its impact ore a fan of these two. I was a Rockets fan at the time or more to point a Hakeem and Clyde fan from their college days so watching Larry prevail in their championship game was disappointing and i did nott become a Larry fan until later. I will add in respect to your channel i like that your brother and you know your basketball and are also doing videos on less well remembered players I look forward to seeing more. Keep up the good work.

I’m still 100% convinced the change to the 2-3-2 format cost the Celtics the series in 1985. O remember the Memorial Day Massacre in game 1 where the Celtics won game 1 by 30ish. The new format put game 5 in LA instead of Boston and when tied 2-2 the winner of game 5 wins the series like 80% of the time.

I laughed so hard when you paused on the Ed Sheeran lookalike, because I had the exact same reaction the last time I watched this documentary. They just throw this dude in all of a sudden in the middle of the video! You can't surprise people with gingers like that! On the topic of rewinding videos, I think you should do whatever maximizes your flow man. I do generally like the short rewinds but as long as you aren't talking over a part of the video I don't think its super necessary to rewind it. Some people who do reactions talk over the videos and that gets annoying especially if you know they're missing good lines.

For the flow of the video, you can just go back 5 secs with the left arrow on the keyboard and it's perfect and allows you and the viewer to not lose any detail. If you go further it does really slow the pace. Cheers

Yes I Like It Better that You Go Back A Few Seconds. Also This Might Make It A Little Easier To Get Into That Habit/Flow. Just Hit Your < Arrow, It Mights It Go Back 3 OR 5 Seconds. I Think That Might Be Easier Then You Having To Move Your Mouse/Pad On The Line To Do It. Give It A Try Off Your Live & See If That Works For Ya.

I agree the media likes to spin narratives, but that doesn't mean the one who they chose didn't deserve it. The problem is today that resenting bias for Magic still lingers, and as Larry doesn't brag and virtually hides from interviews, he never really is seen. I like to say every 5 years Larry pops up from his gopher hole, says some words and disappears for another 5 years. There is so much unconscious bias in basketball: white men can't jump, athletics is for real players, etc. It is painful. Some of which is inherited from both sides. I don't see it in football, or soccer, or baseball. More or less the players are treated as equals (there is some favoritism and racism: we will never get rid of it unless aliens land then it will be humans vs. aliens.) Basketball is pretty blatant, the only white stars are from Europe. Another reactor said Larry was the last great American white Basketball player of GOAT status. Many reactors said this should have ended racism, but it didn't. Isiah has said Larry had his and Rodman's careers in his hand. There is a recent interview with Larry, Isiah and Reggie called Indiana glory that you might want to watch at least).

I agree 💯 Larry had to prove himself Everytime he was on the court because he is white. The media might have been pumping it up but they were pumping up Magic also. These kids who never have seen Larry Bird was play think he was overrated because he's white. Then they see him play. Then opinion starts to change.

Larry’s cold, little bit of a sadist. I love Larry but his “know that he’s suffering” little rough. Maybe you know this, but I learned it recently. Ainge played a season or 2 of MLB baseball before going to the NBA. Not too many hoopers with a couple pro homeruns.
