I used to be a maintenance engineer and worrying about the cost of tools was something I gave up with a long time ago. The simple rule was, if I couldn't make a suitable tool in far less time than it took me to earn the cost of a store bought item, then just buy it and get the job done. Keep your customers happy and they won't bilk over the bill.

Most people who do lock stuff aren't locksmiths, they're hobbyists. I drive for fun. I'd love a Porsche. I can't afford one. Nobody's going to pay me to drive one. Hence the Honda Civic. These cost 450 euros. That's per keyway. There are about 30 different models to cover all the different keyways. A full set would cost you 135,000 euros. But just buy one, right?

Cool review, Noobster, always good to see a bit of innovation. Reminds me of the foil impressioning fad of around 2013. HOWEVER, I think these are over-engineered and largely a high-risk and exceptionally expensive purchase. Everyone knows about the new Lishi-Style dimple picks that can open a good range of UK dimple locks (including the ISEO R6) in about two minutes, for about a FIFTH of the price and without all those fiddly bits no one wants to be dealing with when kneeling at a door lock at midnight, with the good old British weather complicating matters even further. If I remember rightly these manufacturers don't offer any warranty, which for a 400 quid tool is not ideal, and why we've never stocked their products. They told us they make a video of each product before being shipped, but if it breaks, I'm not sure how that would work. Maybe that's changed. Ironic really that it's called 'Topolino', since the Italians call Mickey Mouse, "Topo Lino", and we all know what something Brits describe as being 'Mickey Mouse' means. Enjoyed the video though, as usual.

Are you aware of any type of impressioning/decoding tool (tubular, dimple or pin-tumbler) that is at least partially universal? Just so you don't have to buy a whole new tool every time you come across a different keyway? I mean, if you've got one that matches the keyway, Lishi tools are almost like magic wands, but they're not cheap, they don't make them for every keyway (I'd kill for a PZ one), and if, like me, you are bad at identifying keyways (I have 4 Lishi tools. One works on 3 of my locks, one on 4, one on 2, and one on none), it gets expensive very quickly. Some way of interchanging the "blades" (sold separately, of course), and perhaps some kind of overlay for the decoder?
