1. As for the ‘click’ you can set it to ‘tap to click’ in setting to avoid the noise. 2. As for awkward opening, rest it vertically on the hinge and fold the keyboard down, rather then moving the display up. 3. I wonder how much of a difference there is on the lap between the 11” and 12.9” 4. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to control volume, brightness, etc with the iPads onboard controls rather than keys. Not really a hassle. Otherwise, yep too expensive, the material is too smudgy, sucks that if there is even a small redesign in the future, this expensive accessory becomes a brick. Also......mine arrives in May. 😁👍🏻

Let me know how you get on with that polyurethane material. That’s pretty much my only sticking point, given the fate of previous Apple keyboards and cases.
@tracephoto18234 жыл бұрын
Monsieur 'Gill' Sans Honte I actually just cancelled my order. Of all the pros and cons, the one that got me was that $350 was too much to spend on something that could be a brick in the near future. Also my particular workload doesn’t justify the cost. If it had been $200 or even $250 I would have kept it, but $350 is just too much.
@malfaro3l4 жыл бұрын
Monsieur 'Gill' Sans Honte I am actually very concerned about that because my last case made of this material had to be covered in a vinyl wrap from slickwraps. It looks fine now, but I certainly don’t want to have to go through that again.

Tip for opening the Magic Keyboard: Pull the bottom down, don’t pull the top up.
@guycortesi4 жыл бұрын
I found that if you stand it vertically on the back hinge and the pull the bottom cover down, it unfolds nicely. Pulling the top cover up takes a lot of force, but the bottom cover drops right down, especially when vertical. The whole assembly then unfolds easily and snaps into place.
@rickyelvis32154 жыл бұрын

@bobalobalie4 жыл бұрын
Yup, I was about to type that up in the comments. I just got mine FINALLY a couple weeks go. ‘Twas backordered to hell when I went to order it. Putting it vertically high the charging port on the table and pulling down the keyboard is actually quite natural when you take it out to use.
@grumpyoldwizard4 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to separate hype from reality. This pad is expensive and has at least two limitations: 1. It does not protect the sides of the iPad or the iPen, and 2. It lacks function keys. These two limitations were big concerns of mine. I went ahead and bought one and I am very impressed. Quality wise it is the best accessory keyboard I have ever typed on. It is sturdy and holds the iPad with authority. I do wish it protected the iPad more, though. Having now used the keyboard, I am sold on it even with the two drawbacks I mentioned earlier. It is extremely solid and professional. After using it, I intend to keep it. This is a excellent review. Thank you so much.

Mine finally came in the other day, and ive pretty much had my ipad mounted on it ever since. It really gives a MacBook feel more than i even expected. Kind of the best of both worlds, feels like a MacBook, but you still get a 120 hertz screen and touchscreen when needed. I even surprised myself the other day when I couldn’t find a good angle to watch a video on the sofa, when I remembered i can just pull the ipad off of the keyboard. It almost makes it feel like a completely new device. I haven’t even touched the screen one time today.

studivan do you even have an iPad Pro? Because if you do, how often are you really dropping it? And if you have the money to spend $1000 on an unnecessary expense like an iPad, $300 for an accessory shouldn’t be breaking your bank or you need to manage your finances better. You don’t have to like the magic keyboard, but other people are allowed to, and that’s ok.

I’m really tempted to get this for my 2018 iPad Pro (Which I won’t need to replace for years to come IMO). So glad this works with the older model for those of us that aren’t going to upgrade often. There’s plenty of room on the bottom on either side of the trackpad for function keys ... how about 2 USB inputs on the bottom hinge ... one for charge one for data ... how about a magnetic strip just above the top row of keys so when you use the ipad and pencil with the keyboard flipped up the iPad stays put ... how about a recoil suspension spring in the main hinge with 3 taps to open up the beast ... and how about some innovative psychedelic colours for the backlighting and optional colourful cases that are attractive and durable ... now that would be magic.

I enjoyed your review of the Magic Keyboard because of its candid and clear transparency about the pros and cons. One feature you didn't mention was the circular 'cursor' (instead of the usual arrow). I really like it visually and enjoy the ability to scroll and click without the need to touch the screen! Having come from a different iPad Pro keyboard, that is a real breakthrough for me. It was also helpful that you referenced doing a 'cost- benefit' analysis to see if this iPad Pro keyboard's value for individual needs justified the cost and the possibile depreciation of the polyurethane material). You mentioned I believe how the keyboard is top heavy. This can be noticeable when it is not on a firm, flat surface, because it can tumble backwards. Otherwise, the construction of the keyboard is first rate. Thank you for a clear, thought- provoking and informative review!

I have an issue with my trackpad constantly moving the insertion point while typing. I think there is a way to turn the track pad off temporarily in trackpad settings. I like the Magic Keyboard USB-C port. There are not any Apple fixable USB-C ports on the new iPads so the less use of the only port on the iPad the better. For me, the pass through charge rate is acceptable and I have not been able to find any data for a true comparison of the two methods. Using the iPad port less is a goal for me, and the new keyboard makes this possible.

When this case first came to the stores, I had put in for my pre-order unit. When i first started using it I was very taken with the typing experience from the device. However, like you pointed out, the case works best when using on a flat surface. Which for me, this situation is not always available for myself. Also, I need to be able to type in my car a lot, and I am typing in the driver seat when I am parked, which because of the viewing angles of this device, does not always make it the most convenient. Then 3, of course is the price. 380 with tax for the 12.9 is a hard pill to swallow for something that is not perfect. It is these reasons on which made me choose the Brydge Keyboard over the Magic keyboard. Although the Brydge is not perfect either, the price and the functionality of it is what keeps me glued to it over the Magic Keyboard aord.

Hi. When you speak of its hard to open the magic keyboard I realized that I, inadvertently (in a good way) solved that problem by purchasing another case that protects the edges and corners of my iPad while its in my keyboard. That case is called a SwitchEasy CoverBuddy. It provides a pencil holder at the top of my iPad that is pretty awesome and also gives you something to grab to open the whole thing. I bought it on Amazon for $42.99 so along with the magic keyboard makes it an even more expensive package. I believe though if you use your iPad like a computer and a drop would be pretty devastating, it’s worth it. Especially if you use your pencil often. As it charges your keyboard, with this case it also charges your pencil. So its always ready. It allows the keyboard to close completely too. Anyhow just a suggestion. Great information👍🏼🤍
