Hey, Zeek, since I bought the Eos M as my first cinematic camera in the past 3 years, I learn a lot from your videos over these years, and also it brings a lot of fun for me, considering its price on 2nd hand market only cost under 100 us dollar in China. Last year I switch to BMPCC 4k but I can't feel the same happiness I had before, so I sold it out. For me, the dual iso to take photos is totally enough and it also has good video quality.

Been using this speed bump for ML RAW for the last few days since Bilal released this on the 7th April for the Canon 700D and EOSM, Danne has tidied it up really well, amazing !! big margins now for all settings and no dropped frames, 3k video is insane, loving this, thanks for the tutorial and tips as always, love my EOSM even more now

You could actually shoot a full narrative feature with your techniques and it would look just as good as most using equipment costing thousands. Have you ever tried adding a 16mm film grain overlay (with debris) to make it look like actual old film? I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. By the way - Great editing work on your presentations as well.

Nice video! Is there a 5x crop when you’re filming raw video? I can’t film 2.5k raw video without the crop but at 0:56 it looks like there’s no crop applied while using the 2.5k raw recording. Thanks!

Alright, you've convinced me to have a go. I found an "EOS M" on ebay for £135 and have purchased that. Next is the lens. I have several NIkon F mount lens and Sony e-mount lens; so I can either just buy a native Canon mount lens or buy an adapter(s) for the Nikon/E-mount lens. I have a Sony e-mount anamorphic lens (SLR Magic, 1.33) so that's tempting. This is all to try 'raw' cheaply. I also use DaVinci Resolve Studio.

After some youtuber pointed out the "swaying" background when shooting with the m50 I can't unsee it in regards to the canon m as well. Is there any way of getting around that or is that simply due to the sensor? I don't see it in videos shot with the 5d or 6d etc. There's a flimsyness around the m-series video quality?

Shot today with monitor and it definitely helps in 2.8, 5K and will try 2.5 once I can figure out the framing... tried 3k abit. The speed gain is much better. Props to Bila!

I know there is a lot of frustration from many of us not be able to reproduce what Zeek is having in his camera, there are a couple of things I discovered, he doesn't mention, maybe because it is so obvious, or it is a natural thing to do that it is not in the video, I am going to mention them here 1) Buy Sandisk Extreme Pro (170 mb/s) without a fast card, nothing is going to work , 170 is read, but write is fast too 2) This is probably the most important, DO IT, make sure dial is in movie mode, and press MENU , in the left top corner tap camera icon AND CHANGE FROM MOVIE AUTO EXPOSURE TO MOVIE MANUAL EXPOSURE , PRESS SET 3)change shutter speed to 1/50, recording quality to 1920/24 4) Now try Zeek settings, first time you will see 2560x1090 is not possible, that is ok, choose what ML tells you works, then press menu couple times until you see the video screen 5) click again the trash icon to go back to ML menu and this time you will be able to select 2560x1090...DONE!!! 6)Thank you Zeek for your nice videos, for your tutorials and your enthusiasm with this little camera

Question with the high resolution modes! I've never used an external monitor with the eos m. Would using a monitor allow me to see the full live view in the high resolution modes or does it show exactly as you would see on the body screen. Thanks again I always love your videos!

It does exactly what is shown on the EOS M screen with ML. High resolution modes don't normally have the correct recorded framing unless they are FRTP Modes.

External monitors do help, depending on the NITS. Increase the brightness in the Canon menu too 👍

Keen to see if the new build works a little better than the current one I have installed. Random question, Zeek: what does it mean when you see a gridded set of pink dots on your raw video footage? Can it be prevented/fixed post? or is my camera just a dud, ha. I'm sure you like hearing, though probably get this a lot, your channel was the motivation to purchase a Canon M for my travels, just with the kit lens for now. It's nice and portable, simple and user friendly. Sometimes feels a bit like over engineering when using the pro setups, so the M is a nice everyday fun think less option, I feel.

Hello and great content by the way. You see, I bought this 4 years old Canon 110D used once or twice from a colleague of mine from work. I've tried installing the ML nightly builds for the camera but it simply just won't install. It doesn't recognizes the SD card when I format the card from my Laptop before inserting it into the camera, either that or says ''Memory card containing firmware need to update''. Whatever that means. I went to the Canon homepage and installed the firmware version 1.0.5/1.0.6 and I had no problem installing either of them but ML night build everytime I try to. Any clue what to do? Your aid is much appreciated.

Try using old Contax Zeiss lenses, like Distagon 28mm f2.8, or Sonnar 135mm f3.5, you'll get really good rendering, very organic looking which would add to that filmic look. Cheers!

I'm having difficulty getting continuous recording with these resolution modes, and settings, on the new build. What sorts of things affect the bit rate? SD card IS the SanDisk Extreme Pro. I've tried 10-bit, and I've tried lowering the resolution quite a bit, but at this point I'm not getting much better resolutions than before.

I tried to copy everything, your settings and started taking videos 2.5k 24fps after a day of shooting, magic lantern became tough to start taking videos you cannot even star recording and the screen just keep turning off and on.. any idea what this happen?is possible because of battery?thanks

Seek, thanks for all this! You convinced me to get back to ML, and video. I was going to start with the 11-22 to keep it small. For longer shots like birds do you have other recommendations, or is your earlier work with the 55-200 still pretty good or would you go right to the 55-250 as in this clip (with the speed-booster)? I am curious if the stabilization is holding up well at the long end for the 55-250? I use an Olympus for bird stills and am a bit spoiled by the stabilization, but for video I really love raw, hence following your advice with a small M rig. I think the crop will be about x3 or so, and my Olympus bird glass is all 600mm or more with the M43 crop…so I was expecting the ML 2.5K or 2.8K crops to put either Canon lens in that ballpark. I would love the extra stops with the boost, but size and weight + stabilization matter too. Any thoughts appreciated. I am excited to get back to raw video after some years away from ML. Thanks again for all you are doing to show a modest price path to cinematic goodness!

The 55-250 STM is a champion of a lens, IS is very good at the long end. I also have the 18-55 EF-s which is very nice too and I'll share in the next video.

Ive upgraded to a 512gb card and i was wondering if i can use the build in your description and install it again on that card just like the last time? will it have everything i had before too as i mostly shot in 1080p. Im noticing all the clips have 10 bit on them. With the smoother 2.5k and 2.8k are you able to get longer record times at 12 or 14 bit? Also what post keys monitor do you have?

You can get longer with 12/14 Bit too, but not as much as 10 bit. You can barely notice a difference at all between them though. Even when grading.

Hey Zeek! Just got an M2 from my brother and he told me about ML. I've been diving into your videos and for most of the part, they're about the M camera and some about the M2. I did see your ML video settings like about 2 years ago, but watching this video makes it look like the M is better than the M2? Hello. I intende to buy 700d for magic lantern. On paper it can match the eos M, but can you tell if magic lantern will be the same as in the eos M. Would you encourage me to buy eos m instead.
