Magic Mask

Magic mask in davinci resolve is getting better! While it does not work on every shot or scene, it can be used here and there to improve your looks when color grading. From changing colors of different elements independently, to adjusting the lens blur, it can help you out in your journey to achieve that cinematic look.
Also.. I am being made aware of people color grading in premiere. While I love premiere, and edit everything in premiere, you should consider downloading davinci resolve. There is a free version. Let me know if you have any questions. F1 coming soon 😉.

Thanks Blain for sharing! I never thought to use a magic mask on the talent and do a background blur using a parallel node. So many cool things you can do with Davinci. Do you mind telling us your preferred method to roundtrip using Premiere Pro for editing, then color-grading in Davinci, then back to Premiere for delivery? I love color-grading and using my audio plug-ins in davinci (can't use VST plugins in Premiere)i, but I prefer using Premiere and After Effects for all my edits and graphic/animation work.

hey thanks! I for sure edit in premiere, and color in resolve. the round tripping process is not one that I can explain over text.. and can be quite complicated depending on the project. it is also different based on the project and requires you to formulate some rules before the edit begins and you at times need to be in communication with VFX and color before hand. I online/conform commercials, sometimes with like 100 deliverables, here and there, as that is where I started in this industry. so there is not a scenario that I haven't moved from premiere to resolve and back to premiere. so, I could help you via a phone call if needed. just let me know!

This is great, I love how it allows you to save the skintones while being able to push the background further. What's your take on using the magic mask vs depth map? I guess the magic mask is lighter on the processing power?

Definitely helps with the skin tones (on shots that it works). I need to revisit the depth map. Will report back.
