Approx 1/4". You just need to make sure that you catch in the seam so that it is covered. and as we trim back the seam 1/4" should be enough. Here is a link to the written instructions with photos www.alandacraft.com/2016/10/25/magic-pillow-case-tutorial/

You are fabulous! Thank you for this video. I am a beginner and this is going to be my first project. I’ve watched this video three times now but have a question...if I want to make a queen or king pillowcase do I add the the 27 inches for the standard? So, I would make the cut at about 30 inches for queen and perhaps keep adding inches for the king? Am I making sense? Thank you
@alandacraft3 жыл бұрын

I've made quite a few of these and I never do the French seams. I just stitch and then zig zag the seam. The other thing that I do is to do a pretty decorative stitch on the trim to hold it down. The reason I do that is because that little trim piece gets folded unless you iron the pillowcase each time you wash it. I'm far too lazy to iron pillowcases.
@alandacraft2 жыл бұрын
You don't have that on your own, definitely do not iron pillowcases these days. Thank you for sharing your ideas. It's always lovely to hear how others finish their projects. 😊

I have a story for Alanda...It has been six years since my ex-husband filed against me for physical custody of my child. She was six years old... I have legal rights, she was getting in trouble at school at the age of 12. Twice a year (last year 4 times) I put papers into the courts asking to see her. I saw her last Sunday, then her choir concert solo on Thursday. She said she had been to the concert Pulse in Minneapolis and received a 'magic pillow'. For fabrics, I used nylon silks. Green paisley with white flowers golden details, a golden white cross design cuff, and a black red & golden trim. It's the most beautiful pillowcase I have ever seen. For all the nights I wasn't able to be there... and it is sophisticated enough that she won't feel that I am forgetting just how much she has grown. This project meant a great deal to me & I was able to finish it in one day as my second sewing project ever. Thank You, Alanda!
