Got my kit on Thursday. Very happy with it as this is my first time adding mentalism into my card magic routine. Tested it out at a work outing today and absolutely got insane reactions. While the props are a great value for the price I paid, so far Peter's teaching is the best thing about this. One of the propless tricks he reveals as something fairly unique to him got the best reactions by far. For a beginner, the explanation is worth the price of admission alone.

I've been studying and practicing mentalism for more than a decade, and I bought this - because Peter Turner! I have a lot of his books and vids. How To Read Minds just arrived for me this morning, and I was first surprised at the heft of the box. Everything is high quality, and I don't think any spectator would assume they came from a box set. They look like real things everyone already has and uses. As mentioned in the vid, pros will have most or all of the bases covered. But truth be told, a mentalist who doesn't experience glee when trying and using different versions of effects they already know must be boring in real life. For example, I have the Espionage wallet which does almost everything all of the wallets do in the kit. But I really love the quality of these items and look forward to using them. And I don't really want to rely on one wallet for everything, lest people get sick of *seeing* it! And NOBODY teaches mentalism as well as Peter Turner. Nobody. I consider myself pretty advanced, but Turner just oozes technique, and I'd be surprised if I don't learn a few things from this set. At the very least, it'll be a lot of fun. $100 very well spent. (EDIT: Spelling)

Great review! You convinced me! I just bought it, and I love it! There are so many great things in there. As you say, I know a lot of the methods, but the way Peter performs it, is pure gold. There is just one thing I can't understand. In the trailer for the kit, they say you can't teach someone to read another person, but I don't think Peter is teaching us that trick, and I can't make it fit with any of the methods he's given us. Any one else notice that? :)

Some people, while valuable in their own right, are complete putzes. I was extremely disappointed by some of the pro's questions and commentary, seeming to really want to harm this product's success more than anything. For example, the extremely STUPID bitching about the obviously sarcastic and humourous back-of-the-comic-book descriptions on the Kickstarter page. I'm not going to say WHO, but that thread alone has caused me to boycott certain mentalist/magicians. You read it too, so you know exactly which ones. I can't stand them knowing that they talk smack like that about a successful worker / creator who is considerably better than they.

sometimes there is a secret code, or a secret list of words that you need to memorize in order to perform a specific effect - a "crib" is a "cheat sheet" so that you don't need to commit it to memory.

I really appreciate this type of thing, it’s an upscale some would even say adult magic kit. I simply like that with all the magic one could buy this allows you to find out if and how you might click with mentalism. I understand I would not be able to use the Dracula book for instance because it's written in English. I got this last week, and I must agree with you... I wasn’t able to find the tutorial, till they emailed me! 😂 All in seriousness, I own quite a good amount of Peter’s work. I haven’t had a chance to watch the ENTIRE thing, but the quality is on point. I did play around with the apps, and I’ve had some crazy reactions. I was able to know a strangers birthday, and their pin code. So yes, this mentalism kit is highly worth it!

I know what you mean peter turner is by far my favorite mentalist I have his penguin lecture but on there he teaches a technique for getting someone’s star sign that’s just a guess so he is too bold I haven’t tried out much of his stuff Bc I thought I would get caught but I backed this and live my kit maybe now I will finally become a mentalist instead of magician who does some mentalism Another great review David

If you want to be like Derren, here are some products you should 100% look at! - Proteus by Phedon (the cleanest propless drawing duplication ever created) - Mind power deck (Derren performs this on Stephen fry) - Decisions by Mozique (Derren performs a version of this on Stephen Merchant and this product is reviewed on this channel) - The Manchurian Approach by Anthony Joaquin (a DVD set on how to used hypnosis as entertainment) - Research ANY work by Peter Turner (his more advanced stuff), Michael Murray, Fraser Parker and Kenton Knepper Hope that helps! :-)

hi, I have a question for you..you said the props are very high quality.. I didn't not own any ESP card so i can't compare, but I can say that: my wife immediately saw the m*****gs and understood something strange was there (and actually they are sooooo visible and simple to discover...) AND, most annoying issue, they are absolutely transparent! I mean, i was doing the trick on a white table and when i put the cards on it face down I could clearly see the signs... I had to use a dark mat and lower the light to avoid this issue. i think the trick is very good, the cards are terribly made. which are your thoughts on this? thanks!

Are you serious??? The thumb-writer is a grease pencil. What beginner is using a grease pencil when they perform? The ESP cards have the most visible marking system I've ever seen on marked cards. You couldn’t even call it hidden, it’s the ONLY noticeable part of the design. AND you can see right through the cards! The book test uses the first method a spectator would guess. It was the first method my daughter (who has no magic training) guessed after watching the performance. Also, for some reason they didn't cut the book to one of the standard dimensions a book comes in so it doesn't look or feel like a normal book. The wallet is oriented like no wallet I’ve ever seen. On the Cafe, Geraint from Ellusionist says it’s a leather hip pocket style wallet but he didn't mention that it folds open along the LONG edge. No real wallet is made like this. It's too big for a business card or credit card wallet and too small to hold money. Also, it’s not real leather, that’s just a bizarre lie. As you noted, the custom credit-card looks completely fake and that’s true whether you look at it from the front or the back. It's a clear magic prop. The notepad is okay if you’re the sort of person who carries around a faux-leather notebook with you (I’m not). The marked deck is fine. Everything else in the kit is filler. The quality of the items is about what I expected, but the decision making that went into them is so poor that I won't be using this at all. I'm not an Ellusionist hater by any means. I like a lot of the things they put out, but not this... Also Peter Turner is BORING...his persona, his delivery, all bland and boring....his methods only decent if you are an absolutely beginner...

Wow, you're the first person I've come across who didn't like this. (even in reading people's reactions on the cafe) every himber wallet I have ever owned - opens on the long edge ... and I spoke with Geraint personally and he told me to my face that the wallets were both made of leather.

magicorthodoxy thats just my honest opinion...& i am not intending any disrespect... i can see how people would like it...if they had no experience with anything ...im guess since you “spoke with Geraint personally”, that this review isn’t exactly unbiased.... The box it comes in is pretty cool...the campaign and marketing was brilliant & had a target range of 12-22 year old boys with no experience in mentalism and lots of social awkwardness...everyone has to start somewhere...years from now some new modern day Dunninger Brown will look back and remember his first magic kit was this one... also good to see Brad Christian there as if this was an ellusionist project from 19 years ago.... I am giving this kit to my 9 year old nephew but without the instructions. I don’t want him to get the wrong ideas about mentalism and mentalist...

@@svspirit4999 I agreed with you to a large extent. However, please note that this is NOT Peter Turner’s normal mentalism style. This is absolutely a beginners kit. Peter Turner is more know for propless mentalism and hypno type tricks. Think Derren Brown. Also, not sure if he is boring or not. I am from the north of England like Peter, and I think that’s just how we are. We elongate our vowels quite a lot. Also, I think we are quite different to Americans in that we don’t come across as over enthusiastic all the time. That’s not a bad thing by the way. I love the positive energy and enthusiasm that Americans so often seem to live their life by. But us Brits don’t tend to do that. We down play stuff a lot more. Also, I think it’s part of his character/persona that he has chosen to adopt. Tbf David Blane often put on a similar persona. A very monotone voice and minimal movement etc.

I agree that we should not concern too much about the exposure of props within this set. However the quality of the prop is not professional in my opinion. What I hate most is the ad of this kit, it won't make a person become attractive within his friends, it might just make him look like a more weird person. If someone want to have friends and become center of influence, it is their personal character make them so, and not a single trick of magic. It might break the ice but at the end of the day, it is all about that person.
