My favorite Halloween trick utilizes a Pyro Mini. When a trick-or-treater arrives at my door carrying a Potter-verse wand, I ask them about their wand and what is their favorite spell or charm. I then ask them to guess my favorite spell or charm. Eventually, I tell them that it's the Incendio charm and ask if I can borrow their wand. I then use their wand to cast the charm (while activating the Pyro Mini and shooting a fireball off to the side). I then hand them their wand back, telling them that it's a good wand and they should take good care of it...

Great post. Thank you. Fast & Loose! I use a big chain and do the 3 blossoms version but only do 2 circles. Then after laying down the chain on the table I form it into a skull. The spectator chooses one of the eyes w/ his finger and sees if he can escape. Doesn't the 1st two times. Then cast a spell over his hand using haunted key and the 3rd time he does.

EVP by Alan Rorrison is my favorite to do. I’ve only done it 3 times but each time has gotten unbelievable reactions. You Have to end it by saying it’s a trick though otherwise people can genuinely think you’re talking to a dead person.

Agreed. I was going to suggest this as well. I perform it at all the Halloween parties. But yes, it's the only trick that doesn't seem like a trick. It seems real and it freaks people out

If you have a haunted key or similar metal prop that you want to age, suspend it over a some ammonia in a sealed container. The ammonia vapors will age it. I usually put mine in a Tuperware container and rest the item on an old plastic film canister.

I've managed to get a copy of the original "The Web." It's a great trick to do. Just make sure the spectator isn't too afraid of spiders. I still carry a video on my phone of performing it on my sister years ago. She still hasn't forgiven me (kidding). Man, what a scream!! Take care, David.

Great topic David! Love The Web also. One can set it up by asking for different fears audience members have earlier on, including spiders. Then note potential participants based on body language. Mentioned in comments by others are two others I like a lot: EVP and the Collector. I didn't see anyone share Dawes' The Clown, but that picture at the end CREEPS people out, in a good way. ;-)

Luke Jermay's "Tarot Psychometry" is a great one with the major arcana. I've managed to memorize the entire 78 tarot deck in a modified Mnemonica order, and have marked my main tarot deck (Tarocco Sopraffino). That way I can do some false shuffles, have the spec(s) cut as many times as they want, I read the back of the top card, turn around, and call out all the cards in order (or as many as patience will bear). Then I do "Tarot Psychometry" with the major arcana as a closer.

Fright by Jeki Yoo is a pretty cool impromptu Haunted Deck, though I think you need a fresh deck with a sturdy case to do it so it cant be jumped into after wirking with a beat up "old faithful" deck. There's also a bunch of really cool effects in another list produced by Penguin Magic themselves. Eric Tait and Nick Locapo go over some cool stuff like Sick by Sean Fields, EVP by Alan Rorrison, and even Hook by Eric Ross which I have, but haven't yet worked up the nerve to do it. It's the only "roulette" routine I have since stuff like The Pain Game by Eugene Burger is too nerve-racking for me. Even if you'll be completely safe if you follow the instructions as people have said. Maybe some day. Love the lists man. 👍

You mean Pain Game from Jon Allen? I will say I perform both Hook and Pain Game, and I think they're both awesome. I believe Hook has an inherent risk to it, due to how it works, but Pain Game is almost 100% fool proof. They're both number 1s to me, and definitely worth trying to get more accustomed to performing them. Good luck!
