Magic Routes Paths with Google Earth Studio and After Effects

This technique will allow you to automatically place routes behind buildings and objects (i.e. trees, under bridges). No rotoscoping or manual masking - really, its automatic!
In this video we will build a simple animation through Manhattan and with After Effect add a route and automatically mask appropriate 3D buildings with the route path. You'll be amazed it works.

Hi will this work if the elevation starts 100 and then it goes up to lets say 500 ? because in blender the route Disappears while the camera goes high

There's a bug with the frame rate from google earth studio, when you import the jpg sequence in after fx, go to project right click on the jpg sequence, interpret footage and change the frame rate to match your comp in after fx. 🤙

Followed the steps. The first seconds, the track points are spinning like crazy in AE. Tried changing the coordinate space option but still same. Hard to make a consistent path when the track points are acting crazy. Hope someone has a solution.

I'd try re-export the jsx file from Google Earth Studio using file>export

Is it possible to create a 3D path in After Effects in order to tune its altitude to better fit the Google Earth map altitude? It would be really useful to create trekking maps, where mountains create huge altitude shifts.

After Effects doesn't handle 3D well (it does 2.5D), but we do have a 3D KML importer coming for Blender - videos coming out soon

i have literally tried this hundreds of times and can not get the path to track. When I create the blue rectangle and zero out the position and orientation the rectangle looks half-sized, which can't be right.

I just started my own small business which offer property videos for real estate market (properties for sale and for rent). I charge my client for my videos so I am not sure if I can ad Google Earth Studio video clips content because on their website stay "Earth Studio is free to use for news, research, education, and nonprofit or recreational use". I don't have drone so I would like use Earth Studio just to show property location, area around etc. but because I charge for my videos then does it allow me to use Google Earth Studio or only non profit projects are allowed? The watermark is 100% required. Regarding use, generally speaking, the video you created is to educate about a commercial interest and is not the actual product. Charging your time for computer services seems reasonable... But, it's a very gray area, legally.

Is it possible to map a route that isn't a path or road, for example for a boat or swimmer through the ocean?

Yes. You can use automatically generated KML (like maps for cars, trains, buses, bikes, walking) or you can draw your own in Earth Pro (desktop). You can even use GPS data from watch or other websites (flightaware)

Sometimes the jsx file is buggy (especially large maps). Try downloading it again.

done it ten times, and the path wont follow the road as camera moves.. do this tutorial skip something important in GES or AF, as I have tried everything to get the drawn path stay at the same 3d layer as the retangel tied to centerpoint, but it's just go off.. step by step with this and no luck

Render your animation as image sequence (jpeg) in GES and choose JSX file in render options. Do not choose mp4 format
