Mine is not that complicated to make. Just a capacitor connected backwards. Super cheap as well! Though it needs constant replacing and switching off the smoke alarm

If you didn't want to build the electronics part, you could buy an ultrasonic diffuser like the one at 14:07 and 3d print a new top part to look like a capacitor. Also, to look more like a smoking cap, instead of the vent hole on the side, leave the + shaped slots open when you print the silver top piece so the mist can escape from there.

Good job, can you use the mystified to humidify the air? It is silent? My humidifier uses a heating element and bubbles the water, making a noise that's not ideal for nighttime. If it’s possible, do you know how long it would take to vaporize 1 liter of water? I would need about 1 liter in 2 hours.

Very interesting idea! I would have added 'Nichicon' word, to fit brown colour ;-) If I build one a day, I will use completely different electronics: a PIC that includes capacitive switches, a mosfet to drive ultrasound generator, and a PCB, either homemade or done in China (I use JLCPCB for years now) - as an electronician, I'm not fan of these assembly of modules like Elektor does now, I prefer by far to create my own design. I also would have popped the top of capacitor, to make it more real :-D. Good job, anyway!

how what you need is some small propellant charge to shoot the top case off and you got an exploding capacitor too. instead of regulators you could use a resistor to limit the current to slightly less than what the fan requires. in a rc dropper and led by limiting the current the load can pull the voltage down so in theory you could just use a resistor.

Could you make one with the smoke coming out of the crease in the top of the capacitor? In real life they have the crease to allow an easy to puncture point for smoke to escape.

Good luck if you need to replace that ceramic disc in the mist maker with all that epoxy also you should try some sweet birch essential oil it ,it smells amazing ,like rootbeer

I think the water might reach the circuit below. The water drops that goes up like volcano might fall through the air chamber even of the height if the part is increased and even after placing a funnel. I would recommend increasing the height of the air duct(like a chimney) and designing it in such a way that it creates a horizontal vortex and pumps out the mist through the outlet ☮️

Another idea would to be to put some sort of very fine netting or mesh, but spray it with a hydrophobic spray, it'll still let gasses, such as the water vapour through, but it won't let any liquid through

Having a mesh filter before the fan intake would eliminates unnecessary maintenance such as dust or some small animal go inside.

Make the air duct output in a hook shape which lets the air in but no water droplets to come in the electronic compartment and adding a bit of code that whenever the humidifier stops or turned down the fan still blows some air which does not let the water mist to sneak into the air duct and condense causing accumulation of water over time
