A beautiful application example of microcontrollers! This really unveiled a great mystery I've had for years, on how coin sorters 'knew' their coins. Well taught as always. Thanks!

Another excellent video Andrei! I enjoyed learning how these coin selectors work and taking a look at how it could be done with an Arduino or similar microcontroller. I agree, it doesn't make sense to try to completely DIY a version given the commercial version is only 20 dollars. Thank you for putting out this quality content.

Thanks so much! Just a question, why do we need to measure the speed? I think the speed is related more with how the user put in the coins and how the machine was designed, but not related with the coin itself too much.

I believe a coin comparator works in a similar way, but compares the disturbance caused by the inserted coin with the disturbance of a sample coin chosen by the user.

Awesome video. Some places have coins floating around that are worth more than face value because of defects or a temporary change in material used to make the coins. I wonder if someone smart like you could make a machine that sorts out higher value coins. I know people that buy huge boxes of coins then sort them by hand to make a small profit, it would be great to just dump them into a custom coin sorter and return the face value ones for more chances lol.

I have a 20 year old slot machine (pachislo). I have been trying to get it to accept ferris based quarters. I was able to modify it to fit the coin size but after i ran 20 coins through, it now errors on these coins, When I disabled the electromagnet it will not accept any coins. I'm at a loss on how to disable this feature.
