So, there's a combo using Animate Object from the new un-set that I've *actually used* in un-games to win using Exodia. It allows you to take an inanimate object from outside the game and turn it into a non-token creature. Casting it five times allows you to grab the five pieces of Exodia (Animate Object doesn't say that cards lose their effects, so technically Exodia can be counted as still having its ability) and then you just have to find a way to return them to your hand, and bam, you just won a magic game with yu-gi-oh cards.

@@joshmountain9705 i second that. I purposefully bought all the colors of Card Kingdom's rookie decks for that reason. It basically has a one or two mechanics that are common for that color, so when you play two colors, people only have to get overwhelmed by 2 mechanics in general. It's how i got my son to play magic with me and how he got most of his non magic friends to start playing as well. Of course i pull out the Modern Mill deck to keep him in his place now.

I was going to point out that Shrine is an enchantment type but someone in the comments did it for me. It's certainly not confusing at all that creatures can have non-creature types though lol. What's REALLY mind boggling is that if your goal is to make the game confusing then this video doesn't even scratch the surface! "Weird things you can do in magic the gathering" is a series that does pretty much just nonsense, like putting your library in the command zone (somehow). Love your videos! Keep it up.
@Tacklepig
@Tacklepig 2 жыл бұрын
It's not that confusing that creatures can have non-creature types, imo. I mean, Gingerbrute is a Food, and the Reconfigure cards are Equipments. There also was a Treasure creature in Capenna. It really doesn't feel weird if the creature also has a creature type. With the Shrines, there just wasn't enough space to add a creature type, else they likely would have been Spirits.
@profozpin227
@profozpin227 2 жыл бұрын
@@Tacklepig I'm not saying it's confusing (mechanically) to me, I'm saying it's confusing in general. Most people aren't going to feel like it makes too much sense to be able to "equip" a cat and have it buff your stats. Or to "attack" someone with a shrine (people don't usually associate them as "alive") I will also point out that it's unlikely space was an issue, considering the "Legendary Artifact Creature - Equipment Jellyfish" exists

But, it can be used to compute the Game of Life, build a Turing Complete computer within the Game of Life, and then program MtG into the Turing computer that's in the Game of Life that's coded using a deck of Magic cards.

Exodia is simple to understand. The idea is that it's a monster you can instantly summon by drawing all five pieces, but really it's an effect, except it can't be negated (note: I _think_ this is still true...), but you have to let all other effects complete resolution first, so if you use Graceful Charity and draw three pieces, you must discard two cards to finish Graceful Charity's effect before checking to see if Exodia resolves, so if you discard a piece, you won't win instantly...

Funny thing, if you didn’t cast the aura and placed it on the battlefield, you don’t target it to attach. It just does. Also creatures with mutate or was it bestow? There’s also cipher where it is attached but is not but it is. Imprint? Basically you can put your deck on a single permanent and call it a day.

Somehow banding is the one that gets glossed over. Despite its reputation banding isn't really that hard to understand. Of course that being said, it was never worth playing anything with banding because they were all garbage even for creatures at the time. To boil it down to the simplest explanation any number of creatures with banding plus one without can form a band when attacking or blocking and essentially all it does it make it so the controller of the band gets to distribute combat damage taken by the band. When attacking if any creature of the band is blocked then the whole band is blocked and when blocking the whole band blocks a single creature. So for example, say your opponent attacked you with a 5/5 and you blocked with a 1/1 a 2/2 and a 3/3 all banded together, you get to decide how the damage goes so you make it so that the 5 damage goes first on the 1/1 and then the 2/2 so the 3/3 only takes 2 and survives. That's it. All it does is allow the controller of the band to divide the damage. They don't share abilities. There are no other benefits; you just get to divide the damage. The only confusing thing about banding is there were actually two forms of banding. There is regular banding which is described above and "Bands with other ___" which only allows the card to band with other things that also have the same "bands with other ___" text. And I think the only things that had the "bands with other" text was the cycle of lands that gave legends of a specific color the "Bands with other legends" ability. Which, yeah, that part was stupid and needlessly complex for something that ended up being completely irrelevant.

The problem with banding is that it takes longer than it should to explain in the middle of a game. Then it gets worse when dealing with types of evasion and protection. Overall banding is something people avoid dealing with due to its complexity and just flipping combat on its head.

Banding, easy break down: 1. When you declare attackers, any creatures with banding, plus one without, can attack in a "group"; if you can, you can make more than one group (each of which can include a single creature without banding). Creatures inside a group are blocked together: if one of them is blocked, ALL OF THEM are blocked.. 2. The same applies when you block, except blocking "groups" can be comprised of ANY number of creatures without banding, and you need not declare those groups. 3. When a group receives combat damage, you decide how that damage is divided among the creatures in the group. (Note: of course, you can dump all the damage on one single creature within the band, allowing you to kill the opponent's creature without losing more than one, possibly-useless creature) 4. "Bands with [quality]" is easier to use on the attacker's side and harder to use on the defender's side. In this case, an attacking group is comprised of ANY amount of creatures with [quality], plus of course at least one creature with "bands with [quality]". A blocking group is comprised of any amount of creatures, at least one creature with "bands with [quality]", AND AT LEAT one creature with [quality].
