Brilliant idea! Thanks for sharing...we have an old 1998 Toyota 4Runner without a roof rack...the cheapest we could find a roof rack " system" was $500! Your idea is roughly $100! I already have tie downs and bungees! Getting my DIY on, THANK you for sharing!

I just built this and made a few simple mods. For the 4 upright out posts that you are bungeeing over the yaks, I made them out of 2" pipe and made them taller. I then used a 1.5" circular bit and drilled out 4 holes in each post. This allows me to carry my 2 rods and 2 paddles on each side (my paddles detach in the middle. This allows me to run them through the holes and attach them at the center point between the 2 posts). Thanks for posting this!

@@magic76767676 May i ask what the length and width your kayaks are ?

@@Jseagle1989 Good question. Sadly, my ex-wife has them. They probably were 10 feet long and 30 inches wide.

@@magic76767676 Thank you for the information. One more thing if you don't mind. What is the measurement of the pipe between each of the 9inch tie-down poles ?

Very nice. We bought a kayak and want to buy another. I like it being light but strong. Well done. Will probably spray paint black.

awesome idea! my wife and I are driving to NC in June for vacation and I want to take both of our kayaks to fish in Pamlico sound. I was starting to think we would have to take one hard body and buy an inflatable. this rack will save us a lot of money!

Nice. Also, forget about the black spray paint. Just use abs plastic pipes...like pvc except they're black.

we have a bare roof dodge caravan and this will save our camping trip. I designed one out of wood but PVC pipe is much better. Also, how did you get the pipe to stay connected in the joints? last time I made a motor mount out of pipe I had that problem and had to resort to crazy glue.
@magic767676766 жыл бұрын
I used PVC glue

Do you think it would work without the walmart strap on rack? I mean add some pool noodle foam around the pipes and just let it sit on the roof.
