Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create this landscape print, from your Gelli Plate. I really really love ❤️ that landscape, but I really thought it was a seascape. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags

Ah! Thank you. Yes, it gets very cold here in winter, so the blues can be land or sea! 😘

There are mediums you can use to extend the drying time of artist acrylic. I don't think I'd use floetrol, though that is used when doing fluid acrylics, mostly to create flow and cells.
@HeartstoneArt2 жыл бұрын
I use Golden’s open acrylics or their open acrylic medium.

Hello Heartstone Art, I'm writing because I've seen some of your nice and instructive video clips where you use gelli plate. I'm a trained graphic designer, but a beginner in this field, so therefore I have some questions that I hope you see and will answer? 1. Which Golden Open colors are you using in this video? 2. And what do you spray on the gelli plate before you wipe it off for color - is it just water in an atomizer? 3. And is it just a disposable napkin (kitchen roll) or a cloth that you use to wipe off the gelli plate? I'm impressed by your beautiful prints/paintings. I hope you will respond relatively quickly, because I would like to get started myself? Best Regards Niels

Thank you. I don’t remember the exact colors in this painting. I used a variety of blues (I have teal, ultramarine blue, and pthalo blue), white, Payne’s grey, and possibly either transparent yellow oxide or transparent red oxide. Honestly - pick a color palette you like and let the image come from you rather than copying mine exactly. I use water to clean the palette. It doesn’t matter at all what you use to clean the palette. I like the tough paper cloth sold in hardware stores because I can wash and reuse it, but any lint free paper towel or fabric will do.

Just lovely! Do you gesso the watercolour paper first?
@HeartstoneArt3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! No, I don’t gesso the watercolor paper. It can take the paint well enough.

Could you possibly use the additive Floetrol with regular Acrylic paint to slow down the drying time. The OPEN brand of paints is super expensive.
@HeartstoneArt2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried floetrol, so I’m reluctant to recommend it. Open acrylics are expensive, but they do go a long way. You can do these with regular acrylics too, but you have to work very quickly.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Greetings from Tennessee. Your work is beautiful.

I just saw that Grumbacher makes an acrylic retardant. Going to try that. Also Liquitex makes a blending medium. Thanks again.

What size is the gel plate you are using? It looks square?
@HeartstoneArt2 жыл бұрын
It’s a 12x12 inch plate
@LisaMannFineArt3 жыл бұрын
how are you making sure that the picture is lined up exactly each time as you add another layer?
@HeartstoneArt3 жыл бұрын
The paper is the same size as the plate! It’s pretty easy to line up and the occasional misalignment just makes it more interesting.

What is the spray that you use to remove the paint from the plate? Is it just water? Because my plate is super sticky and I cant clean it like you did in the vidéo.
@HeartstoneArt2 жыл бұрын
It’s just water. Have you tried using baby oil on your plate to clean it?
@seaofsolace2 жыл бұрын
@@HeartstoneArt No, but I will definitely try it if you think it could help!

Can you use regular acrylic paint or only open acrylic ? I guess it would probably dry too fast.
@HeartstoneArt3 жыл бұрын
You can use regular acrylics - and I do when I need them to dry quickly. They have a different texture to them, but it’s absolutely possible. What you can’t do so easily is make changes to what you put on the gelli plate before you pull it because they dry so fast.
@annev44663 жыл бұрын
Do you ever use canvas or board instead of paper?
@vonaldautterback88313 жыл бұрын
It's difficult to take a print from the plate with canvas or board - it really doesn't transfer well on those substrates.
@HeartstoneArt3 жыл бұрын
Vonalda is right. canvas is too textured and doesn’t have good coverage when I do a pull. a panel would be too stiff to use (you’d have to lay the gel plate on the panel, or you’d never remove it!).
@vonaldautterback88313 жыл бұрын
What type of paper are you using, please?
@HeartstoneArt3 жыл бұрын
I’m using a 140lb watercolor paper.
