I hope my country treated you well!! Our people were called by different names throughout our history but we have continuous history in that region of Europe since 6500 BC with our language being the one of oldest Indo-European languages. A note about Ottomans. They were in a business of conquest and spreading Islam and not building anything. On the contrary, in Albania they destroyed all they could, looted, burned, outlawed Albanian language, schools, destroyed our universities from the 13th century, tried at all costs to erase our history. All due to the fact that Albanian stopped the ottomans from conquering Europe more importantly the Vatican. We paid a huge price of 500 years of occupation, destruction, looting, murder, massacres and genocide perpetrated by the ottomans just because Albanians stopped this Islamic empire from conquering Vatican. I am proud of what my ancestors did, the spirt and courage that they had to never give up the fight against the Ottoman Empire. I apologize for this extensive note here but I just can’t accept the fact that ottomans build any cities in Albanian. On the contrary they tried to destroy everything they could. Gjirokaster is a city that predates the ottomans by millennia and that castle was build by our Illyrian ancestors, that city was build by Albanians and there is nothing ottoman there but mosques which we know why that’s there. When people post stuff in Wikipedia and other sites are clueless of the actual history of the place or simply they have agendas to spread lies financed by those states that don’t want the truth to be revealed. Berat, Gjirokaster, Lezhë, Durrës, Shkodër, Prizren, Shkup and numerous other Albanian cities predate the ottomans by millennia.
