I don't know what they claimed they saw with the pen, but I watched it in slow motion in full screen and he did NOTHING (other than switching the deck to the reshuffled one). That is better than Shin Lim for feeling like actual magic. Maybe the best trick I ever saw.

i researched this trick and found a solution, even though it was the most off the wall most ridicules set up for a card trick. essentially Shaun had two friends over a long period of time in different outfits meet Penn and have him sign a card. they did this multiple times with every card in the deck. then sent the cards to the company that produces the playing cards asking for a set of new cards with the signed cards placed in there designated spot and reversed with the promo cards and the joker missing. then one of the guys or both get jobs working back stage for the show. when it comes to the trick right before they look at the box, they say there is a mike problem and they need to check there mikes, the friend knowing what Penn's card is and having sealed boxes with a different signed card goes out to Shaun pretends to check his mike and switches the deck. again this is an off the wall ridicules set up. but makes sense.

Force the 7 selection and have a duplicate signed cards with a forged signature? The forged 7 is already in the second sealed box which he pulls out of his pocket (deck switch) and conceals with the joker on top? Then he pulls the joker and the original signed card out of Penn’s hands and cleans up by putting them in his coat pocket? I have no idea. Just a guess.

Deck swap only works if he forced the 7 of diamonds. The only possible way I can see any force is if he had a second 7 of diamonds in his pocket that he took out when stashing the jokers.

I'm not gonna reveal this but Edward if u wanna learn it watch the deck when he takes out the sharpie and look at the "deck" and here's a hint, on the back of bicycle card boxes they have the back of the card printed on the back of the box, one more hint he puts the card in the box in plain view no sleights watch the video again and read this again and you'll figure it out and the joker that he pulled out was just right on top if ya know what I mean

Nelson Montana 1 second ago I too was obsessed with this trick. Though I'm not a magician, I can usually figure out an illusion. Slight of hand can throw me because of someone is skilled it's so hard to catch. But after watching this trick over a dozen times, I finally figured it out. Of course you know there's a deck switch. But Penn's card IS NOT in the deck. It's put in the deck after it's opened. 7:26. Though having about one second to get it in the right spot is damn amazing.

Rick Insanitorium The way I would see it is that he had a prepacked deck with 8 of diamonds reversed (not signed) and the promo/joker's removed, packaged up as fresh. He then used a separate fresh normal box to have Penn look at and establish with the audience the normal setup for the later reveal. He then either forced Penn to select the 8 of diamonds which could be with another deck swap containing all 8 diamonds or just getting a single one (either from the shuffle or easier one loose on him) and forcing it so Penn selects it. Anything works as long as it's that card selected. Now he gets it signed whilst deck swapping to the pre-packed one with the 8 of diamonds reversed and promo cards etc removed and sneaks that into Penn's hands instead of the initial deck. Now it's unpacked and not played with at all, Penn could look at the back before it's turned around but because of the spread the signature would likely be hidden regardless so it's not obvious if it we're a fake. I think the swap happens at the last second where he flips the card. I'm not an expert in sleight of hand (or magic tricks) but I have seen it done in that way, though to not get caught by Penn at that range would be a feat in itself

Only thing I saw was there was something funky going on when he pulled the pen out of his pocket.. looked like a deck switch, but how you get a signed card inside a sealed pack in the right spot, I have no idea.... if he forced the 7 of diamonds then that makes it a whole lot easier.. slip the seven in a slot in the bottom of the box.. box set up to hold open the spot for the 7.. place a plastic sticker on to seal that part of the plastic. However, how the hell could he have forced.. he didn't have a chance to swap the deck before Penn chose his card by tapping the back of it... Penn had just shuffled and had shown it was not a deck of 7s... and Penn took the card he chose out of the deck immediately.. HOW do you force under those conditions?

I don't think I have seen a trick as good as this one. I've watched it many times in slow motion and wonder if the camera angle hides all the moves, but Shaun doesn't seem to have time to do anything that would get the cards in that box. Conclusion? He's the devil lol

** SPOILER ** This doesn't appear to be an overly complicated magic trick. I think trying to figure out how he got the card back into the sealed deck is a complete red herring. 1. We are confident there is a deck switch at the Pen stage @5:25 (if you look carefully before his fingers cover it up, the side is red and not white. the side of the pack of cards is red) 2. He puts the other cards on top of the deck to make it appear like an open deck, but its actually completely sealed with cards on top 3. He removes the top cards at @6:09 so that that the excess cards are gone and only the completed deck remain. He pretends he is only pulling out the joker but this is how he cleans the deck and gets his hands on the signed card. 4. You can tell when he spins the card at 6:15 that its not quite a normal way of handling a card, he's trying to hide the rest and just show the joker he wants you to see. Pens signed card goes into his right pocket. 5. At @7:39 he pulls all the extra cards out? What for.. to get the signed card out of his right pocket. 6. When the fixed deck is being shown the card is already turned around, but Pen is looking at it from the audiences side not the side that has the markings. 7. @8:04 Shaun turns the card around, what for? If the legit card was already in the deck he could just go and sit next to Teller and let the trick unfold. The reason he does it is that how he reintroduces the signed card back into the deck. It's so legit clean I cant see how he does it, but in that second when he's touching the cards again just after retrieving the signed card from his pocket is how he puts it back into the deck. I'm not a magician, but its the most obvious reason for him to touch the cards again after just pulling the signed card out of his pocket. This also means at the start of the trick he either has another deck which are all 7's or forces a card onto Pen. The fact that it was a 7 is pre-determined. Again just as a reminder, we don't actually see Pen's signed card from the presorted deck, we just think we do once the magician turns the card around.

The moment when he took pen out, he hide deck of cards. I believe that is the moment when he took other deck in with the new seal. You can see this on 5:26-5:27, deck is visible in 5:26, and he is rushing to take card of the Penn's hand. Also, he put one card over the new deck, and that is the card he removed from Penn's hand, to create the illusion that was deck without seal, and he somehow magically appear into his hand. At last, he manage to put that chosen card into a new deck, and fix damage part of sealed deck. Definitely a new deck, because he had another one in the pocket. That is the closest I can get.

It is obvious that the 7 of diamonds is a forced card. Actually, the first deck is not a "new" deck, it should have the 7th of diamonds with the cut corners to locate quickly the card and allow to force the card instantly.

Sadly, I learned how this was done by an unethical violation of an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) by one of Sean's assistants. Eduard, your comment "He doesn't do anything" is correct. There is no slight of hand. No matter how many times you watch this, even frame-by-frame, you will never see the move. This is because there is no move. Something entirely "other" occurred which the cameras did not, and could not capture. No, it is not due to Sean adjusting his stance or hands to avoid revealing anything to probing camera angles. Sean is much smarter than that. He is not manipulating cards. He is manipulating Penn (and essential others). I will not reveal the entirely "other" method that Sean used. However, I will say that, although I am not a magician, with enough stage presence, I might be able to perform this baffling trick.

My guess is that it is no coincidence that Penn picks the 7 of diamonds, it's forced somehow. Then when he puts the cards between his hands it is actually already the new deck, covered by the joker he pulls out afterwards. The new deck is a special one without the 7 of diamonds and after its unpacked he somehow places the signed card in the right position.

Ik i'm a couple yrs late but i love how everyone knows how he did it but they're not gonna tell us.. lol shut up you def don't cause if you did you would make a reveal video on this dude and get millions of views. He def switches the deck when he takes the marker out right where you pause it the 1st time and say how you dk how he does it lol anyway he deck switches with left hand and what i think is the new deck has a slit in the bottom but plastic flap open with just a tiny amount of glue on it so when he pushes card into deck, he discreetly pushes down the plastic at the same time in one fluid motion and that seals the bottom so when he shows penn the deck in the end everything is sealed of course and penn cannot see the slit cause of course it looks like a brand new deck newly sealed and only gets a quick peek at the sealed ends and has no choice but to believe it is a brand new sealed deck that has not been opened yet. Idk i've been drinking but this is the only thing i can think of after watching this only twice and it sounds good to me.

So he put the 7 of diamonds back in the deck after it was opened. Noticed a card was sticking up slightly from the deck so he could know where exactly to slide the card back in the deck before Penn fanned it out. There were slits in the new box of cards. He didn’t show the full card box. You could still have one part of box that could fold out the whole box. Just like a regular cardboard box. Somehow he slid the box onto the deck of cards.

I think the critical part of the trick happens between 5:19 and 5:27, and his constant eye contact and talking are a big distraction. But it looks like in that time frame he brings out a box of cards that is hidden by a single card placed on top of the box. It's better to watch that time frame in mute, but still it doesn't reveal everything.

you can see when he pushes the card in the deck after he did the deck switch but it is impressive how he got the 7 of diamonds out so fast und pushed it in its perfect position. he then closes the box from the bottom leaving it sealed on the top. the plastic wrap is not sealed. the way how he unwrapes it gives it away. he acts like he it is sealed but it us unsealed (both times).

Alright lets have a break down, from the starting i really did take out a new deck of cards and they are not setup. He only make his move when he ask Penn to take a card an ask him to say it, if you focus on the card on his hands when he is handing the pen to Penn, he did a shuffle and after if you look at the cards it is actually the cover of the cards. As one part he close the card's cover.

At 5:20 you can see he pulls out a "new" pack of cards by looking at the edge, it is red with a pattern not white... still have no idea how he got the card in the right spot for new deck order, but you can see him put it in the pack. Then he puts it in Penn's hands saying "ill put the cards in your hands now" while it is actually the pack.

I don't know how he put the plastic back on and a "new" seal, but he did mention at the end the magic takes place "mostly" in the spectators hands. From my experience, that means either a set up, a force, or a math magic trick. But that's just my speculation. It might even be all three.

IM SO CONFUSED OMGGG!! Sure, it would be impressive if he just did the thing where he replaces the deck of cards with the brand new box between Penn's hands, but to be able to not only replace the deck but to also have the EXACT SAME contents as the deck before (with the missing jokers and premium cards and Penn's signed card), my mind is blown. Plus the fact that you can't even see ANY hand movement from Shawn whatsoever during the whole time Penn had his hands cupped makes it even more amazing, or should I say, magical. GG.

I almost want to say when All the sharpie stuff is happening, he switches the deck out and keeps the one joker because it has the same back as the deck. He puts the joker on top of the deck face down to mask the boxed new deck in his hand. How he gets it inside and doesn't have two of whatever card is signed I don't know, but maybe it becomes sealed by some glue that reacts to heat, like being sandwiched in between Penn's hands for a bit?

7:16 - 7:26 during the dejavu moment after removing the plastic wrap but slightly before breaking the paper seal leading up to the moments before dumping the cards into Penn's hands is most likely when he slipped the signed card into the deck and removed the blank. He even tipped off that sometimes he has to say dejavu four times. His left finger tips also do some noticeable movements in those 10 seconds.

What happens is, when he does the deck switch, one card is hanging just slightly out the box (either the 6 of 8 of diamonds). When he slides the 7 into the "deck" he uses this card as a guide to get it into correct position. This would mean the 7 is forced. How he makes the cut through the box undetectable is the hard bit, but the deck has definitely previously been opened due to the advertising cards missing from it, and if he can fool Teller into believing that box is sealed, we can assume that the first box has also been opened and tapered with, my guess on the force of the 7 is that is super smooth or silicone allied so the deck separates at it. Balls of steel if it is the way. Great trick though.

I have no clue... but what i noticed: 5:22 - Hiding the deck in his left pocket OR left sleeve 5:26 - New deck of cards with opened packaging and putting in the card 5:27 - with only "the Joker" on top that he will later remove 5:58 - while talking to him he is hinding the sides of the packaging and wrapping the plastic foil with his right thumb 6:08 - removing the Joker on top of the package 1. He is a master of destraction! Just by beeing sympathetic 2. He wont let Pen check the new deck of cards BUT HOW THE HECK did he let Pen choose the 7 of diamonds? :D

I got all,just cant catch how he puts the chosen card directly on the right spot.Thats the only riddle for me.Since I culdnt see the picking process nicely,I am going with a free choice.If its a force,than I Know how its done.About you not seeing him do anything,he actually doesent do much :) switches a deck (behind jacket,when he goes for pen,on top of a sealed deck he has one card to cover (with a flap of lines,to give impresion from the front,he after that removes that card joker,and folds the little flap in process),bum,thats it.Now,if it is a free choice,than I cant think of a method to put it in its place (since its a sealed deck,he cant just pinky count and peek the right spot. PS.The deck OBVIOUSLY HAS a slit to put the card in it.He shows it to Penn fast,and even Penn responds "it has not got slit,well,no to my knowledge" as if (if you showed it properly,or even better give it for exam,Id Know for sure)

On Penn and Teller Fool Us, there is the performance of Kostya Kimlat doing close-up card magic. Judging by comments on videos of this act, he is legit magical to average people, and at least impressive/unattainable to even many professional magicians. So, a possible react? I'd watch for sure.

Funny, I actually recorded a reaction for Kostya Kimlat's performance, but my setup was wrong and had no audio. I'll record it again for sure. It's actually a trick I've been practicing for 2-3 years now and I'm still not performance ready. Definitely impressive!
