It works great as a wifi phone. It will drop your call after an hour though sometimes. You just call them back for another hour of that happens

It is not worth it. I've used it for years. First, the power brick (usb type) heated up like an iron and so to prevent burning my home down I got rid of it. Second, their mobile app so many bugs I don't know where to start. The worst being it turns off in the middle of phone calls numerous times. It does not show "recent calls" even though it has a little number next to the icon that says you have recent calls. That is one of the most annoying bugs I must say as you simply don't know the number to call back. And their mobile app turns on and off without using it. You can open your phone and it's all about MJ! Very annoying as well. And the sound quality reminds me of the first years of cell phone service where people sound very choppy. And I have a business bandwidth account with no one on the line but me. I can't image how bad it is if you use DSL. And customer service? THE WORST! It's most automated and not very useful.

OK so they charge to port a number over then when you want out, get ready to pay 32.00 bucks to leave. That's just BS. Time Warner my new provider waved the move to them and if I wanna get out there is no charge to leave. MJ just takes you for everything you got. Never Ever Again

I call forward my Magic Jack to my FREE Google Voice app/ phone number which is awesome. Google voice will allow you to text on your PC or laptop as well

Mission: Owning a business, and living in both the US and Colombia, and being able to make and receive call from Colombia without incurring long distance charges. Situation: I have a long-established Verizon cellular business number. I do not care what number I get from MagicJack other than it be a US number. Thus, I don't need or want to port the Verizon number to them. Ideally, I would like the callier ID to show my Verizon number if I called them on the MagicJack number, but I can live without it. Please check my logic: I would like you to correct or confirm my logic below: 1. It appears that MagicJack is actually a VoIP service, and that the MagicJack is a SIP front end to a copper phone. The device ID ties back to your account, and like cable TV, if you are paid up, they will service you. 2. I should be able to forward my Verizon cell phone number to the MagicJack when in Colombia, and answer calls there. Making calls from Colombia would show the MagicJack number, unless they let me display my Verizon number in the caller ID. This has multiple advantages: a. If my cell phone ever went kaput, I could forward the Verizon number to the MagicJack number and answer by connecting a standard POTS line phone, or installing the app on another cell phone, regardless of what its number is. b. When in a foreign country, I could buy a SIM for their data network and receive their calls through a foreign network for the cost of cellular data, or if over a Wi-Fi hotspot, for free. 3. I can use the app on a phone, tablet, or laptop. 4. The app will do SMS texts, but not MMS texts. I will use have to use my Verizon and Message+ to handle messages online when abroad. 5. The only prerequisites are that the MagicJack is plugged into power and a router with an Internet connection. If connected USB to a computer, then no other power is necessary, and the MagicJack uses the computer's Ethernet for the VoIP., in which case the computer muse be alive and active 24x7. 6. The MagicJackGo hardware, random telephone number, and one year of service costs only $35. *If this does these things, it is and incredible value, and wildly less expensive than RingCentral, and has all of the RingCentral capabilities that people care about except MMS texts. Question: If you unplug the device, as would simulate a power outage or router failure or internet connection issue, does it still work? PS: It is too bad the inventor Dan Borislow died at only 52 on July 21, 2014 after playing in an adult league soccer match. He always had the cute advertisement for MagicJack sitting on the couch with his daughter and two dogs, Magic and Jack. He sure did a lot of things for a lot of people in his short life. He deserved every luxury he had. Virgin Mobile unlimited is $60/mo.
