Thanks for this video. I had set up my new MagicJack GO using an electrical outlet, as opposed to the USB. It registered fine with MagicJack but I kept getting a "404 Error" and no dial tone when I tried to use the phone. After watching your video I tried plugging it into my USB on my computer and loading the drivers and software. I started the MagicJack program and BINGO - it worked! I pulled the unit out of the USB and plugged it back into my outlet and VOILA - all is well. Thanks again.

I bought a magic jack last year and I had the same problem as he did. The power adapter that came with my magic jack device didn't work either. You would think that magic jack would do a better job of making sure everything in the box worked before sending it out the door.

Been using Magic Jack since it first came out like 9yrs ago. upgraded over the years, and about to buy the MJ Go for a gift. I have been using the app for about 2yrs now. I love the app a lot that I have not reup my service. I have kept my MJ personal # that was assigned to my MJ plus. I have used the MJ device and App in China with no issues to call or text back to the USA. Yes, you can also text message using the MJ app.

Hi, have been using magic Jack since 2008 and you actually don't need to have your computer on, the router is what u must have on at all time since the magic jack is connected to the router which provides the internet for the magic jack to work, i set it up at home and my uncle is a senor guy who likes to talk on the phone, and ever since i switched it over he is always calling all his friends and family not worrying about long distance charges.

I still don't understand the reason to upgrade to MagicJack GO versus my old regular MagicJack I've had for years, other than the fact the GO can be plugged into a router instead of the computer itself. The MagicJack APP works with my trusty old MagicJack, so 90% of the time when I'm doing MagicJack calls, I send/receive them through my cellphone. It's great for traveling and making WiFi calls, and as you say, as an alternative number for small business or otherwise.

It's worth noting that "virtual phone" or "soft phone" solutions like the MagicJack are rarely compatible with local emergency response services. In short, they aren't for 911 calls, especially if you aren't in a state capable to stay on the line and verbal convey your location.

I did all the plug -ins and plug-outs with the wall plug and basically got No result..! tried it on my mac ios Lion (maybe thats outdated) and no go. when i arrived at step 10 in the install ,it sent me a "Error" notice (not able to complete setup) Was on a long online "CHAT" with three levels of tech support which had no result. Was able to return the original unit,exchanged it for another , Took my laptop to the store,used my "Hot spot" on my phone as the internet connection,went through all the prompts and was able to set it all up.! A tech guy told me that my new home router has alternating "IP" addresses for security and that the Magic Jack needs a clear line.

Alex Denny Your tech guy is mistaken... The Magic Jack doesn't care what it's IP Is - it uses DNS to resolve this when DHCP assigns a new address... I've been using Magic Jack for 5 years and I use all manor of security including Mac Filtering to make my router exclusive to devices by ( you gussed it :) ) MAC Address.. so if you have an issue feel free to message me here... Magicjack works on 10.6.8 or Lion, unfortunately your machine has to be dedicated for it to work reliably. In other words, unless you dedicate your machine for exclusive Magicjack use while you use its phone service, every time you launch an application, you have to quit the application and reboot for it to actually work again. (This of course is not the case if you plug the device directly into the router and the wall outlet) Configuring the device remotely is sketchy at best and you're better off plugging it into the PC/Mac and allowing it to install drivers / software for the purpose of configuring the device for your account. Once that's done just unplug the device and set it up for direct Outlet to Router/phone configuration. After that you can just uninstall the software and/or drivers if you wish. They come out clean with no leftover bloatware.

it is unlimited calls, but sadly if they feel you've exceded their standards or expectations, you will get flagged and won't be able to renew, so basically you will waste your initial investment. sadly. Magic jack is a piece of sh!@#$ when it comes to customer service, i am currently seeking legal advice in an attempt to get fully refunded for about 10 Magic Jacks i purchased for my business, if that doesn't happen, i will file a lawsuit for false advertising and business losses. so read up their policy and take your time with it.

I have a Magic Jack and a Magic Jack Plus. It works pretty good. I got it because I wanted a vanity number and an actual second phone, not just a second number. As far as business....if you just want an additional number and not an additional phone, why not just use google voice? I have google voice for my business and it forwards to my phone. I place calls from my google voice, both from the computer and from the phone.

A bit late on the reply, but yes, you can take your device to europe and it works fine. Prior to the magic jack plus and go, you had to take the little usb device to plug it to your laptop/computer so that you could make calls. Back then I would actually pack an old cheap land line phone in my luggage. With the apps from mj, you can now download the app on your smartphone, logon from europe on the app, and call back to the usa/canada.

Hi, I live in Aruba a and I have a Magic Jack on my iPhone and I use it to call my friends in the USA and Canada. It is working fine.This is the best calling app that exist because other with other calling app you have to make call at least once a month or you will lose your number or you will lose your balance that you have. With Magic Jack if you don't use it for 2 or 3 months you won't lose nothing. That is why I love Magic Jack.

I'm using the magic app with my plus3. Here's the solution to a head scratcher a lot of people are having. You go to install the magic app on one of your devices, and it says your account has expired and it won't work. Here's the issue - you can only have IOS OR Android devices. So if you have an iphone but the wife has a samsung, one of you is out of luck. Also you can only have the app running on one device at any given time.

I've been a MagicJack Go user for a couple years and it works perfectly - bought 5 years of service in advance because the price was so low. Your other viewers should know that MagicJack allows them to select their own telephone numbers and has several options for doing that The best feature for me is that when traveling outside the USA, I can receive and send calls through the MagicJack App installed on my smartphone - As long as you have UNRESTRICTED Wifi available to your smartphone, you can call back to the USA through your mobile phone - Couldn't be easier I mention UNRESTRICTED Wifi because some telecom companies or even hotels restrict these kind of calls. I've never found this restriction during travel in or out of the USA. This product is Excellent

I've used MJ and MJ+ for years now. By far it is the cheapest solution to voice calling that exists on the planet -- less than $2 a month, which includes the cost of the physical unit, on a five-year plan. You can also FAX over the MJ connection. The ONLY reason to upgrade to the new MJgo is for the conference call capability. But you might not really need the MJgo to do that if your phone itself can do conference calls (such as a two-line or four-line phone that allows you to conference the lines.). I have three active MJ+ plugged into router hubs on ether net cable. The MJ+ will also work plugged into a wireless hub. I used to plug into my PC, but it runs under the now unsupported XP OS, and I have to reboot it a few times a day, so it is unreliable. Once in a while I do have to reboot a MJ+'s when the dial tone is lost. But that could also be the digital phone. I usually just cut the power to the phone, and the dial tone reappears when I restore power. But sometimes I have to pull out the MJ+ and reinsert it. I also have MJ app for smart phones or tablets. It works over WiFi or Data connection. I have a WiFi-only tablet, and I have made and recieved voice calls usin the MJapp. Both the physical device and the app can be used worldwide. All you have to do is find a broadband connection anywhere in the world. Many overseas call centers use MagicJack to serve clients in the US and Canada.

I don't see how that new cell phone app is so special. I have the old original Magicjack I bought back in 2010. And I have a regular (non smart) cell phone, but I can still easily forward my magicjack calls to my cell phone by logging into my magicjack account. This is nothing new.

Actually my cell phone is not old at all. I got it brand new less than 3 months ago. It has been longer than that since I commented on this video, I have no idea what the video was even about. Anyway, no it is not a smart phone, its a basic cell phone designed to make and receive phone calls when you are not at home. It has no internet capability, no camera, pictures, or music player, its just a "phone". I have no need for internet if I'm not home, nothing online is that important that it can't wait till I get back home. I go months without checking my email, and I have never text in my life. If something is important they can call me, mail me a letter USPS or just come knock on my door, lol. I think email is reverse technology, its much faster to call someone and talk than it is to email back and forth for days on end. Many times I have lost out on items I wanted to buy or sell on craigslist because it was 12-24 hrs in between each email back and forth for a few days, Then it either would sell out from under me or they would buy from someone else in the mean time (very frustrating). If we just talked on the phone like in the old days, lol, we would have actually done business rather than waste each others time. To answer your question.... No I can not call from my cell using the MJ number, why would I need to that? I can just call from the cell. My concern was missing home calls while out. That's why I mentioned that I can forward MJ calls to my cell when I'm expecting an important call and I can't stay home and wait for the call. From what I saw...I thought that was what the cell app was for, to transfer calls to your cell while your out.

If you port over your current home number you can't make incoming calls till the number is re-established to the MJ. They sent a email saying this but I fooled with everything for a couple hours first before I read that. Why this isn't mentioned right where you buy the numbers, is a GD mystery. Oh btw they said it would take 5-10 biz days. I doubt it will take that long but I'll let ya know.

Don't try calling customer service. Two reasons: customer reps speak English with strong accents and The wait to speak with anyone can be a long time. Customer since 2012.
