The Dark Knight' is undeniably one of the best movies ever created. There is not a moment in watching this film that you will ever be bored. Agreed! I see it as the greatest film of the 21st century. Not likely to ever be surpassed (unless you count "Lego Batman"....just kidding!). To this day, I still cannot equate Heath Ledger's "Gabriel Martin" character in "The Patriot" film with the Joker of TDK. They each appear to be from completely different actors. Such an amazing range of talent! R.I.P. H.L.

@@x_trio_3_po333 Seriously though. Heath's acting range was crazy. I remember watching Brokeback and was like ".....um...THIS is the same guy from 10 things? from the patriot? Are you sure?" THAT was when i knew Heath was something special. That acting was unbelievable. I was hyped af to see TDK after that. Apparently, Nolan was on the same page. He was SOLD on Heath after watching brokeback mountain. I still miss Heath. I really wanted to see the movies he'd direct. He was gone too soon.

I got lucky and got to see it at IMAX as well. Same reaction. Everybody was shocked by Heath Ledger's performance. In my opinion one of the best villians of all time in cinema. My favorite thing about him was changing his story so you never knew anything about his past. Even his clothes were custom and untraceable. My favorite theory someone had was that he was some kind of special forces or CIA guy like an elite operator where they scrubbed all of his background so nobody could find anything out about him. Makes sense as to why he could fight and knew how to handle himself. But then his superiors betrayed him and left him for dead and maybe he got the scars while being tortured and finally snapped and came up with his world view about the evil nature of humanity. Anyway that is the version I like.

The nearest IMAX theater was completely sold out for one month straight. I know what you mean by being fortunate. I'm not usually impressed with the higher prices for 3D/IMAX movies (buyers remorse). @Alexszander
@Alexszander Жыл бұрын
The Joker's several introductions in this movie (with the heist scene, we get to see his "mad intellect" at work and with him greeting the mob bosses we see a glimpse of his "personality") works perfectly. One thing that's rarely portrayed in superhero movies but we see it in this one - the scenes with the batman wannabe vigilantes - a negative way in which superheroes can inspire people to take action, putting themselves at risk and as a result dying - the Joker killing that guy. Harvey Dent's iconic line "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain" - it fits what happens further down the line in a freakish way. It's ironic how Rachel trades a possible life together with Bruce (because of the danger involved) for Harvey, who, through his actions, paints a big bullseye on his back. The way Alfred explains to Bruce that whatever the Joker does is not logical, the example he uses - brilliant writing and Michael Caine delivers those lines fantastically. Gordon and Batman pull such a longcon on the Joker, faking his own death just to catch him and it works wonders, to a certain point. It's in equal parts fascinating and horrifying to see how Harvey's mental state unravels more and more as the movie progresses, the toll it takes on him, everything the Joker and his lackeys do. It's heartwarming, seeing how proud Gordon was to tell his kid that he saved Batman for a change. Everything that starts going wrong from the moment they catch the Joker - it's a real descent into madness. Rachel's death, Harvey's disfigurement, both Batman and Gordon apologizing to Harvey but we can already see he is too far gone, already broken by the Joker, Rachel choosing Harvey in the end and Alfred hiding that fact from Bruce - all of it is heartbreaking. Harvey starting to take revenge on everyone that wronged him is in such polar opposite to the Joker's little "social experiment": on one hand, we have a former paragon of justice gone dark and on the other, a criminal does a good thing, choosing to spare the ship full of people, in the process condemning himself and his fellow convicts to death. There is a certain twisted poetry to all that. Batman choosing to do the ultimate sacrifice, going with the story that he killed Harvey Dent just so the people won't change their perception of their supposed "saviour", their fighter against crime, shows just how selfless Bruce is, finally understanding his role as Batman, being anything and everything the city needs him to be. Your closing thoughts have been on point, enjoyed hearing them a lot. Thank you for the great reaction ❤

One of my favorite fun facts about the shooting of this movie has to do with the scene where Joker is interrogating one of the fake Batmen (Brian). This movie is a timeless masterpiece and one of if not the greatest comic book film ever made. This was Heath Ledger’s final and best role imo, he is easily the definitive live action version of The Joker. Also the reason he keeps saying “You wanna know how I got these scars” and why every story is different is a reference to one of his most iconic quotes from The Killing Joke and he says: “If I’m going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice”. It’s why The Joker is such a phenomenal villain because we don’t know who he is and what his origins were like aside from being thrown into the vat of acid and thats the way it should be kept. If we know who he is there’s no point to him anymore and he’ll just become boring “I’m sorry Harvey. Alfred did I bring this in her? I was meant to inspire good, not madness, not death. But Rachael, Alfred. Gotham needs it’s true hero and I let that murdering psychopath, blow him half to hell. She was going to wait for me Alfred. Dent doesn’t know, he can never know. That line made me tear up. Rachel’s death and Harvey’s transformation into Two-Face is so tragic and it all could’ve been preventable. The amount of pain and regret Gordon must’ve felt for having not listened to Harvey earlier about trusting his men and women, knowing full well that Whurtz and Ramirez are dirty cops and they were the ones who delivered Harvey and Rachel to The Joker and his men on a silver platter. Also If Alfred had given Rachel’s letter to Bruce, he would’ve been even more devastated and probably give up being Batman all together. It wasn’t out of selfishness it was out of his love and care for Bruce. He’s watched him suffer, be beaten half to death and risk his life for a long time yet he’s always been there for him and views him as a son and that’s what makes him such a great character. Without Alfred Pennyworth, Batman would’ve been dead a long time ago.

For the longest time I thought the snipers were jokers men and didn’t understand why they shot at the window Bruce was at randomly. For years I didn’t get it. Just now I finally realized that the snipers weren’t jokers men, the reason there was a timer on that window curtain during the mayors speech was to distract the snipers with a possible roof shooter so joker could get a shot at the mayor and escape without getting gunned down in that brief window.

Its my opinion, Joker makes up stories SPECIFICALLY to scare the people he's talking to: 1.)Gambol is criminal, who is likely a product of a fatherless home, so Joker tells a story about a HORRIBLE father 2.)Rachel is a beautiful woman about to get married, so Joker tells a story about marriage where the wife's beauty is ruined and it ruins the marriage Joker takes your hopes and dreams and fantasies and shows you how horrible they can be if you get them, destroying your hope from within.

Seeing you both girls ENJOY & LOVE this movie… simply THANKS!!! It’s been like 15 years since “The Dark Knight”, I was still 19 in the summer of 2008, and was the most anticipated movie of the decade, and went to the premiere in an IMAX theatre, and what we all as audience were about to live was so unexpected… It was the most unforgettable moviegoing rollercoaster-like experience I lived since then… the emotions, the excitement, the twists-&-turns, plot twists, action scenes, dramatic/tragic scenes, the escalating thrilling suspense, Hans Zimmer’s score!… it all fell into place altogether pitch perfect, and the theater’s reaction was so WILD!, never a dull moment… Heath Ledger’s legendary and phenomenal Oscar winning performance as The Joker was so terrifyingly masterful that elevates the film into a modern classic plus Christian Bale’s turn as the Batman and everyone in the cast. Thank you for enjoying, reacting to and loving one of the greatest movies ever made and the greatest superhero movie ever made. “The Dark Knight” is a cinematic timeless classic!

Fun facts: 1.) the older guy at the party who Joker says "you remind me of my father" was the mayor of Chicago at the time. He was a big fan of Batman growing up and loved Batman Begins so much that he told Nolan that if he got a cameo in the movie, he'd approve anything the movie needed from the city. Heath wasn't supposed to touch him, and his bodyguards were in the crowd, but off camera; you can hear them shuffle a little bit when Heath grabs him. He loved it and said while he was scared, it was like being part of a comic, feeling like a child imagining being in a story where Batman saves the day. 2.) Maggie Gyllenhaal actually felt like she ruined the scene when Heath Ledger got in her face, she had never seen him in makeup yet, and hadn't heard his voice, so she felt like she ruined it by being badass, then being uncomfortable. She wanted another take, but Nolan said it was perfect. 3.) Alfred had a line when the Joker got out of the elevator at the party, but Michael Caine froze when he saw Heath, he too had never seen him in makeup. 4.) The changing scars story was an allusion to the fact that Joker doesn't have an origin story (3 Jokers is a good storyline, but I don't count it as canon) Joker has said before "If I have to have an origin story, I might as well make it multiple choice!" Nolan and others who worked on this trilogy have said that they believe every story he tells someone is true in some way, and all led to him cutting his face. Maybe he did have an abusive father, maybe he did have a wife who left, maybe he was a soldier that was neglected by the government. Heath's family have struggled with people urging them to release his hotel solitude journal, they say nothing in there reveals any information as to like a foreshadowing of his death, but those who have read the whole thing say that Heath agrees with comic Joker, all of those scar stories are true, but they're also a lie, just depends on which one gets the biggest shock value with the crowd he's "preforming" for. 5.) In the interrogation scene, that sound you hear when Batman punches Joker, and especially when he slammed his head on the table was all real. They worked with the choreographer on how to make it look real since it was such an intimate fight with the camera so close up. Right as they felt comfortable and ready to shoot, Heath leaned to Christian Bale and told him to "go for it, actually hit me. Make it real." and he did. You can hear the adrenaline spike in Christian's voice and see it in his body language. 6.) In the first self tape that Joker sent to the news (the one before the party when he kills the imposter Batman) they had a whole crew with Nolan directing it, but Nolan said that it was supposed to be like a camera on a tripod, Heath insisted on it being handheld to give that more "terrorist feel" since that's what the world was seeing on the news and online at the time. Nolan was so disturbed but so impressed by the shots that Heath got that he let him rewrite and direct the one where he kidnaps the reporter Mike Engle. It was (apparently) supposed to be like a mock news interview, but Heath thought it would be funny to see him "reading from the cue cards to mock the indifference of tv news reporters" and the best way to do that? Hang him upside down. They got permission from insurance and the stunt coordinator to actually hang Anthony Michael Hall upside down. Nolan wasn't on set at all, the only other people on set was one stunt coordinator to get AMH up and down from where he was hanging, and an EMT in case AMH passed out or was hurt in the stunt. Nolan saw the footage after, and loved it, and was shocked that Heath was even allowed to do it. He said later that after seeing both scenes, and knowing how Heath was able to get such a visceral reactions with his changes he made, he knew Heath would have been an amazing director had he lived. 7.) The reason The Dark Knight Rises felt so empty in the middle was because there was supposed to be some Joker chaos. WB had Nolan writing TDKR before TDK was even finished being edited, and they loved it, but when Heath died they wanted him recast. Nolan wouldn't do it, so they wanted some unused footage edited in, Nolan said no again. Then they wanted him to put in a body double so they can at least show Joker enjoying the carnage, and Nolan still said no. So they had him pull the scenes, but wouldn't allow much else to change because they still loved it.

11:01 I read somewhere that in that moment it represents so easy why the Joker acts like he does. He does things because he want to, but he don't think about consecuences. Like he said, he's like a dog chasing cars, he don't know what to do when he reaches them. He spills the wine because he wanted to (he like to spoil and break things, that's what he want to do, like an agent of chaos), but then when he wants to drink there's nothing, and he seems like he don't know why. He is like an animal, like a dog (that's why he's using dogs at the end of the movie), he only follows his instict without thinking about the consecuences

He tries to give everyone that bad day to make them see the world from his view and Heath Ledger brings that out SO WELL. RIP legend

Heath Ledger is the best Joker in the history of planet Earth. The biggest loss is his death. It is true that this movie is a bit old and not from my generation at all because I am a very young boy now, but the best three legendary Batman movies are starring the international star Christian Nolan. Undisputed forever. I hope for his return, but especially this part is legendary and historical par excellence + the Joker's historical imprint. I love him because he deserves 100 billion Oscars for this absolute legendary role, undisputed at all, and the talk is over forever. 😱😱😱😱😱😱🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍😏😏😏👊👊👊💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪🦵🦵🦵🦵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I saw this in theaters and that fake Batman hitting the window was LOUD AF, the entire room jumped a foot out of their seats lol! Heath Ledger's performance was PHENOMENAL! He deserved the Oscar he won for it! My only gripe with this movie is that they wasted the perfect opportunity to do a comic accurate orign of Two-Face(the courtroom scene where the guy pulled the gun on him was it).

Pro tips.......joker, who says he never plans anything, planned everything that happened, from the time the Chinese guy was caught, until his own jail escape! The truck flip scene was real! The underground chase scene, was a 3 mile long built set! Heath and the director, purposely kept Joker hidden from the set and other actors during the other actor's screne time. The first scene with all of them, is the high rise party. She was so freaked out, later she said, she almost peed herself! Alfred was supposed to have lines, but he forgot them! The hospital clicking handset/bomb scene, was a mistake they kept in the film! The hospital bed scene between Harvey and joker.....the director and set guys are setting up the scene, lights, props, cameras, etc. Aaron said Heath was always in character, muttering, jerking as he walked, talking to himself. Heath goes over to the bed and starts talking to Aaron, about the scene. They start talking and asking and answering questions to each other, mostly in character. Secretly the director Chris, has everyone else leave the room, and starts rolling cameras. The back and forth conversation between 2 face and joker goes in, for over 30 minutes. Finally chris says to them, y'all can stop now, i got what i need. Heath leans over the bed, gets face to face with Aaron and says, " Now THAT'S acting!" Gordon's kid is the young Blonde guy in, Line Survivor! Ttpe in here, Michael Keaton college ceremony speech when he says, I'm Batman! Yes, he's the Best Batman, but for Joker, i gotta give it a toss up between Heath and Jack. Jack had to do him first, with only the TV show as reference. And he was a funny brilliant sociopath. Who regularly laughed at himself! Heath is more of a guy, who plans EVERYTHING, lies constantly, hates his own self, and cant stand to be called out, on the person that he really is. So i gotta give Jack and Heath, a tie!!

Everyone who thinks the role killed Heath. That’s not what happened. He loved the role, he had a lot of fun, he was goofing off, and all good. The substances, combined with him HATING being “the hot male lead”, and everyone chalking his acting ability up to his looks depressed him. Michael Jai White has been vocal about this, but also the family. I know that “this character is so dark, it killed its actor..” is a great story. But it’s not true. It’s very insulting to the man himself, and to his memory, and his family. I wish I could include links, without getting deleted. But you can search for interviews with Michael Jai White, and his family. iirc it was his sister who was the most outspoken about how rude this rumor is. I know people aren’t trying to be assholes, nor cruel. But that’s what you are being when you spread false information about something as heart breaking as death.

Seriously. I can't stand this stupid rumour. I just want to force everyone to watch the documentary 'I am Heath Ledger'. Heath was bright, creative and so loving. He was anxious+humble during interviews, but goofy and energetic on sets and in real life. He was dope af as a person too. I still remember when Brokeback mountain was released and was subjected to universal mocking. The jokes upset Heath SO much. Not because they were mocking him, but because they were mocking the idea of two men being in love. Considering this was 2005, and gay jokes was more normalized, Heath had no problem calling out his own friends for this. And when the oscars asked Heath to perform for them one year, Heath turned it down because of their brokeback mountain skit. He said love wasn't funny to him and therefore wouldn't make jokes about it. I miss Heath. I also wanted to see the movies he'd direct. He was gone way too soon.

Hey, Magy and Lora. I like this movie pretty much. The action sequences was fantastic, and the music score was legendary. I liked the new Batsuit, the Batcycle, Christian Bale was right on top form as Batman, and the performances, especially Heath Ledger was really good. But I still prefer Jack Nicholson as the Joker, because he really steals the show in the Tim Burton's original "Batman". This new version of Joker was so psychotic. Anyway, it really was considered one of the best films of its decade and one of the best superhero films of all time. So thumbs up for me on "The Dark Knight". The Dark Knight (2008) 3/4 👍👍

That's an internet myth. Nolan explained this "[Special effects supervisor Chris Corbould] was able to come up with a scenario in which Heath could actually be walking out of the building because what Chris worked out is if we put in a little beat where the first set of explosions stops as if something's gone wrong, and the Joker just takes a second to look around surprised like the audience is surprised, then the major demolition comes in and he jumps straight into the school bus. In that way he was able to come up with a practical scenario in which we could actually take a principal actor, walk him out of a building that's about to be destroyed, and literally drop the building to the ground."

The Dark Knight Trilogy is just a masterpiece of film if you just take the superhero element out of it. I really really enjoyed watching the Dark Knight with you as it was my fourth or fifth time watching it, and the whole cast was amazing. It is so Joker orientated/focused. I’ll be looking forward to you reacting to the Dark Knight Rises which I love to bits and it’s so underrated🤩😆. Loved your reaction/analysis, take care, enjoy life, stay healthy and have a good one❤️

People confuse the Dark Knight with a Batman movie, it isn't, in 2008 I walked out of the cinema knowing it was a Joker movie. The Joker's victory is so complete that Baine took advantage years down the line. He took down the mob, something Bats failed to do, he took down the corrupt GCPD which Bats failed to do, he took Two Face down which Bats failed to realise was another threat, and he took down the Batman.
