An EDC Bag I Can Actually Use
An everyday carry bag is a way to expand the EDC gear you already have on your body. And in my opinion, should also still be a usable bag for life stuff.
Everyday carry is a very subjective topic as what works for me may not work for you. And this minimalistic approach to the EDC bag is what works for me while still being able to use the bag as a backpack. I prioritized the need of putting stuff in the bag over the idea of having something that is already filled to the brim. Let me know your thoughts and what you would change in the comments!

Honestly, only change I would make would be to consider a front & rear BP type bagpack. My EDC backpack only extras are a few extra med/first aid items... but I'm also TCCC/Trauma certified.. epi pen, nitro tabs, aspirin(I'm allergic to it, but they'll save a chest pain MIperson)

I have a fair amount of extra in my EDC bag but that's because I drive a septic pump truck for a living so I am not near my vehicle for most of the day, so my back is more of an ecd/get home bag because i try to keep the 5 Cs in it, I think your bag as a basic EDC is great and i am really glad you are trying to remind people you don't have to pack every bag for the apocalypse.

I'd probably change out the sawyer mini for the sawyer squeeze. It's only a few dollars more, has a better rate of flow and can be back flushed for cleaning a lot easier than the mini.

This bag looks way more like a space alien's idea of what a inconspicuous backpack is. Using this instead of something like any osprey book bag, or most maxpedition tactical bags for that matter spies trying to do all of their work out of a giant matte black panel van instead of just using commuter cars in random colors. The "sanitized equipment" look is so extreme that it loops back to making you look like a cop.

Since I took the bus to college which was far from home, my college backpack had snacks, aspirin/caffeine, antacid tablets, tissues, paper towels, comb, q-tips, flashlight, multitool, nail clippers, and hand sanitizer. I never used my plastic knife or band aids, but gave them to people who did need them. There was also a small towel to dry my rain poncho which I kept in a plastic grocery bag. The dollar store sells a locker mirror which is a good size for backpacks, but I never had a mirror back then. I had vending machines around and Dunkin, so I never carried water on me, but I sometimes had some canned coffee. If I had a modern EDC bag, I would include deodorant and socks, and maybe a change of clothes.

Great idea on the plastic on the bottom!! Depending on the corners of the plastic you may want to round them off so the points do not wear holes in the bottom of the bag

I recently started using a backpack for my edc, everywhere I go it goes with me. What struck me the most is how seemingly small and light things add weight to the bag. It was surprising, at least to me!

I don't like stuff in my pockets so on top of what you carry my bag has chapstick, a multi tool, a silcock key, deodorant, sunscreen (fair skinned kids) and a few gallon sized Ziploc bags. The ziplocks are handier than I would've ever thought, especially when my kids were younger. Still a lot of room to spare as I keep a get home bag ( I work 70 miles from home) packed to the gills in my truck.

I carry the same bag every day. I like it for the same reasons. Very simple, but functional. And I don’t stuff it to the gills so I can actually use it on a day to day basis effectively. I carry a small little tool kit with me in mine just because that seems to come in handy a bunch. I got a 3 mag holder from maxpedition to put in that same middle pocket to carry some extras just in case anything crazy were to ever go down.

I use a small hard shell medication travel case. It has like 6 small compartments and 2 larger compartments all with individual doors. Holds a good variety. I think I have mine loaded with advil, naproxen, Tylenol, Benadryl, Imodium, pepto bismol tablets, antacids. I even put labels on the doors so I know what I have.

That little hook for your keys in your middle pouch is an awesome spot you hang one of those super small watch battery keychain lights. I just did that a few days ago on my bag and I’ve needed it several times a day. I have an olight one that’s good but there are some cheap ones for 3.99 at Cabelas that are plenty good. I just bought a bunch of them to attach inside bags and pouches

I carry a vertex ready pack 2.0 as my EDC bag with a body armor panel. I keep it mostly empty like you so I can fit a laptop or sweatshirt in it if needed. It only has some basics I use everyday like gloves, ski mask (winter), a first aid kit & TQ, phone charger, and snacks, the only thing I should maybe downsize and is my lifeguard CPR mask and my little bag of parachord, ductape, headlamp, and multitool. I could probably keep that stuff in my car and add it in a get-home situation. However instead of a separate get home bag I have 3 1 gallon ziplock bags in my car with get home gear and a sleeping bag or wool blanket/ woobie bedroll depending on the season that I can tie to the bottom of the backpack. I've timed myself and I can take out my work laptop/folders and replace it with the get home gear in about 30 seconds to a minute.

@orion3253
@orion3253 7 ай бұрын
Why do you use a purse instead of anything else? Most of the things I see women carrying in purses are things that would probably be easier and more comfortable to carry in pockets if they had pants with practical pockets and if they were to ditch things like "women's" wallets for plain bill folds. Anything else like a jacket or umbrella or water bottle is going to be awkward to carry in a hand bag compared to in a backpack, and having a purse (or messenger bag for that matter) overloaded with heavy stuff if going to do all sorts of bad things to your neck and back over time.

Im starting to lean to a sizeable EDC bag but kept light weight while having a get home bag/small BOB left in my vehicle with most the emergency prep. Then in an emergency i can grab and go or if i have time i can merge them and dump any non essentials if i end up on a trek home. A good idea to balance getting stuck away from the vehicle and actually being able to use your bag for EDC without it bogging you down. When something is heavy you wont actually carry it.

Sawyer mini screws onto any conventional bottle mouth besides ones like Gatorade or the this store brand water bottles. From 8 oz bottles to 2 liters it will work. I have even put mine on the end of a hose and also right on a house's spigot. This is the best way because you can filter that into a bottle then screw the Sawyer onto the bottle then drink through it again for double filter. Another great feature is the ability to set it up inline on your camelback!

Mine has 2 3A panels with straps that can be worn as a vest. Water is metal to double as a boiler. Contractor trash bag doubles as a shelter, poncho or sleeping bag with a space blanket. Small survival kit (fits in a soap box)field dressing , cravat and epi pen. I edc a pen light, Gerber tool on my belt and Spyderco in my pocket along with my edc 9. I rotate some kind of food like jerky, e bar or small boat ration. Usually carrying a laptop and files in the main. I sometimes wish it had a waist band.

EDC with kids, it’s nice to practice like having a little camp stove and metal cups with some coco and tea to practice on short hikes to build their endurance. Definitely need a little more food if u have a kid and an extra change of clothes for them. Nice to have a small kit for them that they don’t usually get to use like kid binoculars, compass, storm whistle, bug off wipes, small lantern or mini flashlight they can call their own and play with during practice and real time.

Don’t know if anyone will see this since I’m super late to the party, but I always carry a little pocket possibles pouch from Tuff Possum Gear that holds; hair bands, Bobby pins, jewelry backers, safety pins, clothing tape, a travel tube with various OTC meds like aspirin, ibuprofen, Tylenol, nexium, Benadryl etc. A tampon and or pad. Victorinox nail clippers with a diamond file. Single use eye drops, uncle bills sliver gripper tweezers. A bit of duct tape wrapped around a strip of old credit card so it’s flat. Small vial of super glue. Some flossers. Mini zip ties. A mini bic lighter. Straight pin… I think that’s it. These things come in handy if you have any women in your life, you can save the day.

In my edc bag, I have many similar items. I would add an extra layer of clothing for sudden temperature changes and downpours. A Patagonia Houdini jacket, a pair of aviator gloves and a buff weigh almost nothing and take up little room. I throw in a ball cap if I am going to be outside a long time. Also with kids, I keep a cleanup pouch in my bag of wet ones, dude wipes, etc. and a small towel. Plus always an ouch pouch type first aid kit in addition to the trauma kit.

@@MagicPrepper Hey MP, couple of other things you might like for your edc bag! 1. Mini butane torch ($10-$30) (great for sealing plastic/polyester clothes, emergency fire, possibly good for “distractions” if things go crazy) 2. Weltool W3 Pro Tac (expensive - $300) (HYPER THROW flashlight that is straight up dangerous - ~568,000 candela conservatively). This is an actual self defense weapon that would be great if you wanted to give your wife/kids some form of self defense in an emergency where a firearm is not suitable/available. Allows you to identify anything that 10x binos can see (not an exaggeration) - I personally EDC this based on the capabilities it gives me and have one for my duty belt. 3. Knipex Cobra ($30) - edc adjustable pliers (either 4” (XS) or 5”). Far better leverage than multi tools and super easy to carry especially in an edc bag. Lots of people actually carry them in their pockets. 5” would probably be better for a bag. 4. Headlamp - any will do, however my personal favorite for “bougie” is the Fenix HM65R-T ($110) for output, dual bulb (flood/spotlight), usb c charging, intensity adjustment, etc. Great little durable headlamp. 5. Set of hand warmers with gloves to put them in. Can be a life saver if you get stuck in the cold. Cheap disposables are fine if you don’t want to spend more than a couple bucks. 6. Nitecore MH12 Pro ($90) - 3300 lumen compact light (I know, I know, enough with the lights lol) - ridiculous value in a super compact size; perfect edc “do all” light. Hopefully this gives you some ideas you might like! And PS - seriously check out that hyper throw light if you get a chance. It is 100% permanent blindness if you get that shined in your eyes from within 30 yards. It is the only thing out there like it. It is also the only (non lethal) self defense tool I can think of that can be used against road rage attackers by just shining it in any of your rear view mirrors. Use with caution if you get it! And be sure to get the “Tac” version if you do! Thanks for all the content you bring us :)

So my edc living situation as an over the riad trucker is that everything i need is on my truck. But i live thus udea of simple edc (and im guilty of over carrying stuff). I would simply add a few items like what you would find in the small SOL kit (survival blanket, basic fire starter kit, etc). I definitely would add a sillock key for any urban environment. My personal hag needs work (reduction) but i have a combined ESEE survival pouch - the smaller version) combined with the SOL kit mentioned above, a metal cup and a few other odds and ends. Just incase i needed to avoid civil unrest.

💯 - I think your pack is perfect for you, dad. I have one set up very similarly to yours, including bandaids and sanitizer spray. (I thank the Lord we're no longer potty training 😏). Mine's not as nice as yours, but still decent quality. I also use mine for the gym and hiking on weekends... So, definitely water in outside pocket (two bottles when with family) snacks, and a way to start a fire (i.e. ranger lighter) if needed-- I think every man should carry that, regardless if you smoke--which I don't. Like you, I don't like off body carry. But when we're together--in addition to my IWB--I always carry my wife's 9mm w/extra mag for her jic. She's not yet comfortable with on body carry, but she's well trained and she'll have my back if bad things happen while we're out

my setup is similar but I use a backpack made by Two wheel gear the bag itself has hooks that allows you to clip it ti the rack on a bike. As i bike to work every day (for me it's faster and cheeper) best part is the bag is extremely low key because it screams "Bicycle bag" and not tactical

My edc bag is legit my edc bag. It's an old osprey backpack from college. Everything I would need in it sleeps and stays in my truck and I can just move it into the bag

Nice could possibly round the edges of the plastic to prolong life of pack as well prevent punctures of sealed equipment? Just a thought😅

No side water bottle slot? Im looking for something one step up from a plastic shopping bag... to carry a 32 ounce water bottle, a power bank, wall charger, 2 granola bars, a Multi tool, and a small simple booboo kit (bandaids, neosporin, tweezers, nailcutter with file), empty room to put a windbreaker if needed.... Must have 2 sidepockets that fit a 32 ounce Nalgene water bottle for all day hydration. Any suggestions on a cheap durable sling type bag/haversack? Not s backpack. Anyone?
