We have the Wuloo solar driveway alarm system. It will take 8 sensors. You can cover all cardinal and ordinal directions with it. It costs more, but if you get the 4 sensor system, you basically get the receiver for free. It can be muted, but the sensor number still lights up.

Super cool. When you say you have to monitor the battery level yourself. Where is the charge indicator? Is it on the house thing or the receiver?
@MagicPrepperАй бұрын
It doesn't really have a charge indicator. Technically it's on the sensor if you hit the button, it will blink or whatever for battery indication. But it doesn't really work as it has no details as to what level charge it is at. So to test it, I more meant to just walk or drive past it and verify that it is setting off the receiver.

Man, I wish I was back in the country where I would need a driveway sensor. I used to use motion sensing, solar powered lights which worked well - but of course, the deer would set it off... so it was of dubious value really. I just decided that the best answer was to just shut and lock the gate... that way, at least people couldn't drive down my long driveway.

@HeatGeek1 it says 1/2 mile but I've only tested to 400 yards or so.

@MagicPrepper thanks MP. Probably similar to radios. Depends on what's between point A and B more than anything else. Also handy to know the frequency they work on. Some more prone to interference than others. Thinking of using something like this for Urban security at the moment. I don't have my 40 acres and a mule yet
@IMBrute-ir7gzАй бұрын
Actually, I'm not sure this would work in a SHTF grid-down situation. Doesn't the receiver need house current from a wall socket to sound the alarm? I'm still buying one because they are real handy.

Technically yes. I don't think they're meant to be used that way but they have a backup battery that will last 72 hours so I guess that would work?
@oaksparoakspar3144Ай бұрын
I've had the Dakota drive over tube one (just looked, they are up to $140 or so now) and it worked flawlessly for a decade on its first 9v battery (plugs in for the inside unit). Downside? Costs a lot and makes a racket every time the power goes out (different tone than when you drive over it). Upside? Great range and almost no false-positives. It will go off if stepped on or if someone goes over it in a bike, pushing a lawnmower, etc - but unless a deer steps right on the tube, you don't get alerts every time a dog, deer, etc goes by (and that would be dozens of times every night out here). I couldn't survive one with all the false positives, so IR lasers and motion sensors are a hard pass for me.
@MagicPrepperАй бұрын
Good to hear that works well. Those are definitely nicer units but like you said, more expensive with a more complicated install. I've considered getting one of those as well.

as long as it doesn't connect to the Internet and you aren't integrating it into your home network, this stuff is totally fine. maybe someone can be skeptical about Ecoflow and units like it. their whole app on your phone and wifi integration. why does a power bank need to connect to the Internet or your phone? that stuff is specifically designed for emergencies and it gets regular firmware updates from China. almost too easy if they want to sabotage something important to your survival. but realistically, they don't need to bother with that. if they can bring down the grid and keep it down for a couple months, they don't give a s**t if your consumer electronics work.
