The 6500 got me back into night biking after many years, phenomenal light and wide spread, can't see why you would need more lumens. I run them bar mounted, you could almost get away without no helmet light they are that powerful.

When you have two on full power they actually dry the trails out in front of you 😝😂

I had a problem with both my lights, (8000s and 5000s) The cable had a short in them! Magicshine questioned my “normal usage” and saying I abused the lights and they said they looked beat up. They eventually replaced them. It’s frustrating because it’s an amazing product but the quality of the cables are no good.

I know what you mean, I have had a cable crack which was a bit disappointing but it wasn't expensive to replace. I'm on my second season with these now and they still a fantastic light, battery is still holding for at least 3 night spins before needing a charge.

For ultra-distance bikepacking, so multiple days without being able to recharge the battery pack, would the 3500 or 5000 have a longer battery life? Given that generally you'll only need 1000-1500ish lumens anyways (meaning you wont need the high output of the 6500 or 8000), but then on the other hand the 3500 and 5000 have smaller battery packs, which one of the monteer series would be best? 3500, 5000, 6500 or 8000?

I would go for the 4500, it has the same battery as the 6500 and 8000 at 7.2v 10000mAh, only €178 compared to €374. Less leds to power (yes you can turn some off on the bigger lights) so on lower settings for back packing you should get plenty of run time. Also with it being that much cheaper you could purchase a 2nd battery and still save money, the battery also doubles up as usb power bank.

Can you adjust it on the fly as far as where are you and the beam when you’re on the handlebar mount that seems like a bit of a mistake
@PedalhoundsTV
@PedalhoundsTV 7 ай бұрын
You can adjust it manually but not advisable on a decent 😂. The newer one has the remote which is much easier and better, one of the buttons actually just sends it to full power and the other cycles through the modes.

Is the 8000 a noticeable improvement over the 6500? I'm still undecided between these 2. Currently I have a Nitecore BR35, which is also a powerhouses with it's 1800 lumens. But these Magicshine lights are next level 👌

It is definitely noticeable but not massively, but compared to an 1800 it is a huge jump. I was out with the lads on a spin last night and they said they had to wait a few mins after I had set off down the trail to to adjust to their own lights as they are that bright 😂. For me the big selling point is the battery life for such a strong light.

@@PedalhoundsTVcould you post pictures of the same scene, with each light at max brightness so we could get an impression? That would be super helpful :)

Don't see the point to have to cycling through flash mode on an MTB night trail light.

I think the new version you don't have to, it has a remote so you can just switch between brightness and modes independently.

Buyer beware! My Monteer 6500S failed just outside of the short 1-year warranty period after only about 20 hours of use. It turns off randomly and will not come back on until plugged into a charger. After some research I see this is a common issue and in my case, the cable did not fix it. I have to ship to them at my expense and they are only offering a small discount toward the repair without disclosing any cost. This is unacceptable for a $300+ light and these reviews are not covering reliability. There are other lights at the same price point with far better warranties and good customer service. I have cheap ebay/amazon lights over 8 years old that still work 100% aside from having to get a newer battery along the way.

That's unfortunate, I've not had a single issue with either of mine and I use mine 3 times a week during winter/spring and back using them now autum is here, battery was even still fully charged after them being left in the camper van all summer.
@stevenboisvert1767

Certainly not all of them fail, but researching reveals there are many failures, and a very short warranty period that is bested by many competitors. Also, don't store those batteries fully charged especially in hot places! Half to 2/3 charged is proper storage capacity for Li-ion and Li-po batteries or you risk serious reduction of your runtime and capacity!

@@stevenboisvert1767 I'm pretty sure failures happen with all brands unfortunately, I've had top shelf lights fail in no time at all, it happens unfortunately. I've never had issues with batteries from being left fully charged, not once, maybe I'm just lucky
@stevenboisvert1767

@@PedalhoundsTV For sure failures happen, but the companies that deserve our hard-earned money will step up and repair or replace defective units. I think we can agree that a service life of just over a year and about 20 uses is unacceptable. Most brands have much longer warranties and better customer service that isn't a residential address in Ontario, CA.

@@PedalhoundsTV I know a guy that never changed his oil and his engine lasted 100k miles! Anecdotes are the worst form of 'wisdom.' Every single manufacturer recommendation for every single item with a lithium-based battery is that they should be stored at about half-charge. There isn't a single resource out there that will say otherwise. Let's agree to recommend only correct practices with lithium batteries. Also, a fully-charged battery is more dangerous than a any other state of charge.

This is the best light for fast electric bikes. I fit mine to my 30mph ebike and can ride full speed even with wet roads in pitch black and it lights up everything perfectly. Mine is the v2 so it has the remote i got it setup to have a low and high beam basically.
