What an absolute genius, he had this incredible knack of getting the audience in hysterical fits of laughter right from his first moments on stage.! Once he achieved that he had the audience in the palm pf his hand, an absolute genius of the highest rank. He used to reduce me to tears all those years ago and he still reduces me to tears today in 2024!! What an absolute genius he was, RIP Tommy! As for comedians today, well no comment!!

We were spoilt to have been entertained by the last of the comic greats, I find it harder by the day to laugh at the modern comics.

His hands look funny and he looks worn out and you can see why the audience thought it was part of the act when he actually died a few months later from this appearance. I'm just glad he didn't die here because that would have haunted Bob Monkhouse for life. I love the way Bob Monkhouse puts his arm around him as they leave the set together up the stairs and the way Tommy looks back towards the camera and audience. It's as if he knows his time is coming.

Tommy got some of his old magic during the Bob Monkhouse appearance he was suffering from lumbago and in chronic pain with his back and legs being so large at 6’4 inches. Although he looks tired here he really pulled it off compared to two years before when his excessive drinking was really impacting on his act as well as his health. Even the performance on ‘Live At Her Majesty’s’ he’d got some of that sparkle back again that night it was only when he put the cloak on that something was seriously wrong. But here this is the old Tommy Cooper sparkle that everybody loved him for

I think Bob really wanted to do a deep and meaningful type interview, but like so many comedians, Tommy couldn't quite break out of his character.

at 6.28 you can hear how bad his breathing is. But a very interesting interview with two old friends but Tommy rarely letting down the guards. Do you think Bob knew the ' bit's Tommy was about to do ? I don't think they rehearsed because Bob did not know Tommy was going to come out with the chicken legs.

Flicking channels tonight, there's a repeat of Tommy's top 30 moments, this was 5th, but wanted to turn it off(and watch this)has I'm fed up listening to writers and critics nitpicking his gags or trying to get a laugh or accolade out of their answers......and yes, for some, it would be the perfect way to go, but when you hear how tired he was even after this performance (with his good friend) he was shattered and if anything is learned in hindsight, is the Morecambe and Coopers of yesteryear were sadly underpaid for so long that when fame arrived they had to give everything extra to the performance that they're fragile human bodies can't take.......I don't think I could name a living legend of comedy's top 10 (I'd probably struggle with 5) hence us watching the legend at the top of his game......(rereading that, sorry if I sound biter or Brahms )😂😂😂
@Fee2122 жыл бұрын
He was definitely well below par here. You can see he's trying to remember punchlines and getting the flow of stories mixed up. Definitely not the Tommy Cooper we all live. RiP Tommy. 🙏
@mattowensrees58882 жыл бұрын
I disagree. It was all part of the scripted act. Tommy was too much of the professional to do otherwise
@brianconway1002 жыл бұрын
Seems like he’d had a few drinks. He was slurring and getting things mixed up, which l don’t think was part of the act at times. Bob Monkhouse has spoken about Tommy’s drinking in interviews years later. Still funny here though, a complete one off.

I don't find myself laughing at him now that I study his work closely and the reason is I can't undeerstand a word he said. He gabbled and his diction was abominable. Even the sub titlles made no sense at all so I don't think I'm alone in not getting him. It could be he was funnier to watch rather than listen to his script.
