I've seen that KTM and Husky both make tiny electric balance bikes for kids. They're adorable. Maybe in a few more years.

@@DifferentSpokesTV yeah I think 2 yrs is when I'll start making the introduction. Interesting idea for a video maybe.

Here in England, we are governed to the EU maximum restricted speed of 25KPH (15.5MPH) and we are pedal assist only, no throttle. That didn't stop me from buying a KTM Macina 291 E-mountain bike back in March this year. It is a brilliant bit of kit and with the 29" wheels and front suspension it does all that I need. A range of 60 miles is easily achievable and that is more than I need in one day riding. Enjoyed your review of what must be basically a small motorcycle feeling to ride it. Keep safe, Mike.

Thanks! That sounds like a great bike. I also ride a 29er and really enjoy the extra traction of the big wheels.

Recently bought a new RadRover 6 and really like it although it only has a 500 watt motor, would be nice to have a little more power for the bigger hills considering its 75lb weight.

No problem 👍 Yes, I find it shocking that now a person coming off by-pass surgery can ride a bike at 40kph.

I was heavy into building ebikes and all the related electronics. I even designed and made my own motors, and build controllers running at 120V... nicest bike I had was a recumbent with around 4kW of power...
@DifferentSpokesTV2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. Recumbents lend themselves well to electrification and run super efficient because they sit low. Nice work!

This bike is pretty close to what I’m looking for. I have a disability that’s damaged the locomotion of my lower back and hips so it’s painful to pedal. But since being on two wheels is what I like doing for physical activity an ebike might be a workable compromise. How hard would this bike be to maintain?
@DifferentSpokesTV2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that the e-motors don't require a lot of maintenance and the battery just needs charging. Beyond that cleaning and lubing the chain, pumping up the tyres and occasionally changing the brake pads and flushing the hydraulic brakes is pretty much the standard schedule for any bicycle. The last few will definitely need to done only once every few years.

I live in the country with lots of steep hills, the nearest store is 5 miles away, not sure an e-bike would work for me.
@DifferentSpokesTV2 жыл бұрын
The five miles is no problem at all for these bikes. As for hills, anything below a 15% grade should be easily handled by modern E-Bikes. They'll slow down on these inclines but even just a little bit of pedalling will get you over those hills.
@blackbuttecruizr2 жыл бұрын
@@DifferentSpokesTV the closest store isn't the one I go to, but thanks! Can these handle 20 miles round trip in hilly conditions?
@DifferentSpokesTV2 жыл бұрын
Range always depends on how, hilly, rider weight, and how much wattage you contribute by pedalling. 20 miles should be doable on throttle alone in all but the most hilly environments. My dad has an E-Bike with a 17.5Ah battery and he gets 30-36 miles out of it. He's heavier than I am and has had heart surgery not too long ago, but still gets out most days when the weather is good.

Country with lots of steep hills is exactly the place e-bike designed for. If it's all flat - most ppl can just use regular bike.

It's been an old custom to have a battery on a bicycle so that they can ride easily on climbing hills IN Japan.

Nice! It's really blown up recently with lithium batteries being more energy dense.

At what point does a bike become a motorcycle, well in the UK its 15.5 miles per hour, yes after 15.5 MPH you need a motorcycle licence and everything else that goes with a motorcycle.
@DifferentSpokesTV2 жыл бұрын
A lot of that depends on the willingness of local law enforcement to actually stop you. The bikes come as they may and even if they're limited, a quick run through the menu unlocks the power. At some point there may be a crackdown and they'll take away the programability of the bikes, but not yet.
