Magisterial Lectures | Jayeel S Cornelio, PhD - When the Faith We Hold Dear Hurts Us

How does religion hurt us? In this lecture, Dr. Cornelio tackles religion's divisiveness and why many would turn a blind eye to wounds caused by their faith.
Jayeel Cornelio, PhD is the Director of the Development Studies Program at the Ateneo de Manila University and an associate editor of the journal Social Sciences and Missions (published by Brill). For his scholarship on religion, he received the 2015 Virginia A. Miralao Excellence in Research Award from the Philippine Social Science Council and the 2017 Outstanding Young Scientist Award from the National Academy of Science and Technology. Dr Cornelio received the PhD in sociology from the National University of Singapore and was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity.

Unity amidst religious diversity is possible when one is kind enough to admit that wound enflicted by exclusivistic religous attitude and begun to a dialogue with humility, understanding, and love.

This is the very reason why I have distant my self from religion. First of all, most people that are practicing religion and passionately do it are hypocrites, they don’t practice whatever they preach. Second is the sense of being selective about the things that they would believe. Being close minded and intolerance.

This guy is a hype in modern sociology and many Filipinos especially those who are still students are buying his rhetoric. He is just articulate on issues that seems comprehensible even to common people. Just air of talk and talk without any shown aptitude on truth grounded on analytics or datasets that represent a larger whole. Sociology is overtextualized!!

@@janthony6086 maraming may PhD in Sociology na hindi kabisado ang p values. Puros chika at storytelling lang ang laman ng studies. Meron ngang statistical inference pero elementary level.
