Real maglev train uses superconductors and electromagnets. If you use neodymium magnets better idea is using magnets only in train to reduce weight of a train and surface friction.

with this method the clutch is reduced but not canceled, in fact the transparent sides crawl on the rail
@刘猫8 жыл бұрын
i advise that two ways for improving this system. first substitute the permanent magnet with some electromagnet, because if you try this experiment with a longer railway, you don't need to find so many permanent magnets. second is to notice the friction between the plastic board and the railway. when the "metro" goes, it must be vibrating all the time, so this vibration can lead to the friction and the friction will slow it down. try some way to reduce it.
@MagneticGamesIT8 жыл бұрын
+刘猫 thanks for the advice, the friction problem I know him well, I have worked hard to reduce it but it is very difficult to cancel it. The solution electromagnet instead of the permanent magnets is much better, it is possible that in the future I will make an experiment
@刘猫8 жыл бұрын
Magnetic Games my opinion for reducing friction is: to make four wheels.then fix two wheels on each plastic board.the wheels's diameter could be very small and the surface should be smooth enough and they can be rotated easily.but the diameter of wheel need to make sure that any vibration cannot make the plastic board and the rail touch any more.so because the friction is not produced by the gravity of the cart itself, it will not go a very large value actually.
@frank65877 жыл бұрын
刘猫 No don't reduce friction for wheels, as more friction = More grip for the wheels and smoothening the surface would be like running with on wet tiles with rubber shoes, however you can make indents where the wheels will go which can help guide the train with much less material

looks like 1 solid piece of unistrut for the track and you are shorting some power supply across the track to transfer power to the cart...the cart is essentially in parallel with the track and gets same DC voltage but very little of the current as the impedance of the strut is almost nothing? Or is there a hard to see electric wire taped to the rail we can't see?
@MagneticGamesIT8 жыл бұрын
there 'no electric wire that transmits current. the current is transferred through the sheet metal rails. In effect, the electrical resistance is high, in 3 meters of rail lose 2 volts
@frank65877 жыл бұрын
If you reversed the current you put in the steel tube would it reverse the fan or still go forwards ?
@MagneticGamesIT7 жыл бұрын
the fan goes to DC 12V, if I reverse the cables does not move more
@frank65877 жыл бұрын
That's weird, because normally when you reverse the current it goes reverse e.g. Clockwise motion becomes counter-clockwise

Hello, with my students we are in the middle of a project. We are also planning to build a wehicle like your train. We can't have a propeller on the train and we can't touch the train as well but we need to be able to move it. What would be the best way to move it? I thought about having more magnets in the back of the train (-) and push it with some magnets(+) in our hands ( without touching it. ) or a small fan in our hands and a small sail on the train. Do you think these would move the train? What was the friction like on your train?

@P8qzxnxfP85xZ2H3wDRV5 жыл бұрын
You mean electromagnets? Yes. Also you need electromagnets, because to really make a maglev train, you need to change the magnetic field over time, to keep the train from falling off the tracks, without the guiding rails. There's no arrangement of permanent magnets that can secure another magnet at a certain point in space, aka magnetic levitation. All arrangements of permanent magnets are in some way meta-stable. You can overcome this by using superconductors, but then those are also considered meta-stable, because instead of "regulating" the field, you "regulate" temperature.
