Ride a maglev test track in Sengenthal in Germany from Transport System Bögl.
I got the chance to ride a maglev train on it's test track in Sengenthal in Germany!
A maglev is a train that levitates on electromagnets.
Driverless maglev
Length test track: 860 m
Max speed test track: 80 km/h

For a symbolic 1€ Max Bögl bought section 1 of Transrapid 7 and keeps it on their company grounds. Max Bögl was the company which made the concrete segments of the test track in Lathen

Trains like this have faster acceleration and deceleration. They also can traverse steeper grades than a traditional train. One thing that makes building a transit system so expensive is adjusting the terrain to conform with the trains.

@@jbognar222 This system not though. Its a regional transport system designed for regional speeds. The Transrapid, also developed in Germany and research considered to be done, is the one designed for high speeds (500km/h). Sadly the only implementation we ever saw outside of the test track is the Transrapid airport link in Shanghai

@@tiberiusmaximilian5591 rubber tires are a no no, too expensive to operate; linear motor is way better, but either way for most applications normal trains can already do the job since they're able to accelerate as fast as the train in this video

This is super super cool. But at the same time, it’s also seems to be a train with extra steps. The switches for this track must have to be massive and super complicated.

This system is for express metro like scenarios not for high speed rail. It can provide a higher average speed by faster acceleration after stations. Metro Systems barely need the possibility for level crossings and also not the theoretical compatibility with the mainline rail network.

@@futurerails8421 modern metro trains using steel wheels already accelerate as fast as the train in this video, so this is mostly a pointless technology

Any rolling stock that combines electrification, automation and maglev technology is A-OK in my books... We need these everywhere especially in a future with labor shortages and ever increasing pollution levels...
@junovzla
@junovzla 5 ай бұрын
we don't need maglev technology, normal rail systems are cheaper to operate and build, and they can already do most of the things the maglev technology claims to be better at, including being electrified and completely automated

@@junovzlaThat is not true. Normal Rail is NOT cheaper than this. They are about equal in cost. Furthermore, yes we do need this and mark my words, this will be everywhere sometime in the future. This technology has advantages other than automation and electrification like reduced friction (less maintenance cost, much less noise pollution, no particulate pollution, lower running cost, higher life expectancy, therefore higher availability).

@@junovzla Sorry but that's not true. The maintenance costs for railway are very high. That's why railway produces always deficits and red numbers while alternatives like maglev are writing black numbers. Thanks to low maintenance costs.

Can anyone help understand if this is a legit Maglev train? I notice two very different things from the Siemens/ThyssenKrupp Maglevs of the past. First I notice the normal Feste Fahrbahn tracks on its right of way, alongside with the traction equipment being on the rolling stock, instead of the track compared to the old Transrapid.
@patrickpirzer4080
@patrickpirzer4080 13 күн бұрын
Yes that's true. First the drive equipment is in the train and not in the track - as it was in the case of Transrapid. Further the track encapsulates the drive and not otherwise as it is at other maglevs like Transrapid, Linimo, Ecobee and Changsa. Another maglev which was using this concept was the M-Bahn in Berlin while the 1980s.

Yeah except that calling everything that is not Wheels-on-Rails a "Gadgetbahn" is just as ideologically dumb as not calling out "BS" on the Hyperloop. If you actually dig a little deeper you will find that, unlike Hyperloop, this one is not a "Gadgetbahn".
