A tilt hammer working in the 21st century, that is brilliant. Today I helped show visitors round a forge in the West Midlands of England. This forge last worked in 1970, and last used tilt hammers in 1920. The tilt hammer was inefficient comared to the pneumatic hammer that replaced it. I hope this tilt hammers continues making things into the 22nd Century !

Hallo Malcolm. I am living in Germany in a small Town called Freiberg. Here in that Town there is also a working water powered tilt hammer. It´s the "Freibergsdorfer Hammer". Built in the year 1607 to forge Equipment for the Miners of the Silver Mine. I have a Video of this Machinery but the People are all speaking German only. Here is the Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZWTdqqcps2dnMU

Don't have a clue what was said but thanks for the video. There's an old iron furnace not too far from here. Wish there was a video on the history of it and a little tutorial on it's operation.

Very cool, I just wish they would give a short video of the drive and control mechanism behind it. It's obviously a trip hammer but water driven ? and how do they control the speed ? does the dude on the right control water flow ?

They have a small chian inside the house who pull or let go a bulkhead to control the water flow

Blacksmiths always want their steel a different shape than it is. If it’s round they want it square, if it’s thick they want it thin, if it’s fat they want it skinny
