I like the idea of incandescent to led and huge D sized batteries to li-ion. The rest is kind of bodged together, like the charging circuit and the led boost converter. The led driver could have been done with a buck converter, redusing the dissipation on a resistor and removing the chance for the ic to destroy itself if the led dies.

I prefer to use energizer max d batteries in it.If it is upgraded to a led as led are efficient for energy consumption.

i think u should have used a Cree XHP70 or a XHP90 led, that way it would have been incredibly bright, that flash light can easily fit a couple lithium ion cells with driving circuitry for the leds and a decent piece of copper to act as a heatsink for the LEDs but then that would change the way the torch is disassembles as it will require modification of the body

When I tried to use it to power all my kitchen appliances and the air conditioner it blew the top off the can on the telephone pole and now nothing works and the neighbors want to know what I did so I told em I don't know . But the flashlight still seems to work and the blue light outside looked really cool .

These maglite's and clones were really popular with cops from the 80s through to the 2000s as you could cave a mans skull in with these when they were loaded with 4-6 D cell batteries.
