Study of Frank's music which he only immersed himself in starting in 2005 is what has made him into a new man, a deep and searching artist. Frank's level of artistry when studied closely will do that to a guy, especially one who already has half his genes.

(I saw Father Frank a few times in the mid-'70s to early '80s. Of course, missing from the ZPZ mix was Zappa's ego, attitude and stage presence. Dweezil is more demure; just a vessel. "As fast and loud as he can" does not make him better than Dweezil, my friend. Dweezil is THE most excellent player around today. Because he understands every last aspect of being a GREAT player. One with true feel and awesome tone. He can play very fast as well (I mean, if that's your only test), but he brings much more muscle into those notes as well Look, you just have to really know music to understand why DZ is the man. His Dad was incredible in this way as well.

I saw a rig rundown vid of Dweezil and the dude has more pedals and multiple amps in his setup than anyone I've ever seen. There's a rack(s) with drawers of pedals and multiple heads. And his guitar tech has to switch all of them like crazy to have the right settings. The interviewer asked him how he keeps everything straight for the setting for all the songs and he said, I don't. My guitar tech does.

I love how versatile Dweezil is, his playing really sounds like a mix of his dad’s and just when anyone starts thinking like oh damn he sure plays similarly the guy’s capable of busting out full 80s styled blitzy licks (and I mean hey he’s best mates with Warren Demartini I’m sure the two learned a lot of each other as well as Dweezil and Steve)

The only problem with Vai, is that he's so incredibly fluid at technicality. he's so technical all the time that his licks can sound like there is no emotion behind it. Almost as if an animatronic robot is playing the guitar, programmed with all knowledge of infinite scales, and programmed to play on key but intermingling every possible note of every possible scale. Go listen to him play "blue powder" where he slows it down. He is good. Very good. and has a unique style all his own.

Technically that’s Yngwie’s thing. I’ve never heard Vai play with anything but soul; he’s translating his soul into his technique and just having fun with the fact that the song is fast paced and intense. If that ain’t soul, I don’t know what is.

Vai is undeniably among the legendary, a guitarist's guitarist, the quality and clarity of those D'amarzios is flawless, if you discover any type of amazing electronic sound phenomenon and can apply it to the guitar, Steve Vai is the first person you'd want to share it with, because he'd dicover it's maximum potential! My point, Dweezil has not summoned his full potential, I love the twangy brassy sound of those oldchool humbucklers, the utilized sharp to flat clashing to break up the harmony grabs attention, its a style, id like to see more from Mr . Zappa, I believe Steve Vai is the key to unlock the genius that remains unshared.

Scheila is still with the band almost 10 years later so if Dweezil recorded all the concerts like his dad, there should be hundreds of great solos in the vaults.

Agreed, I caught this show(sans Vai) with Dream Theater, Bigelf and another band whose name escapes me at the moment, it was beyond cool. His band was tight, the vibe was throbbing, the groove smooth as a baby's ass. Dweezil did complete justice to his dad's work, I walked away totally impressed.

Guys, please. This is two old friends who grew up massively influenced by an incredible composer celebrating his music by having a little fun with it. They’re not thinking about what scales things are in or who’s better or who can play the most in the shortest space of time. They just wanna blow off some steam by playing what comes to mind first. Obviously not all of it’s for everyone, but they’re good musicians who respect each other and we should respect them in the same way. It’s a jam. Not MW1

vai's tone is better because you can hear every little nuance, sounds more fluid
@JCzar7
@JCzar7 8 жыл бұрын
It's mainly up to the listener, an sg has such a thick full sound, compared to ibanez jems which have more of a rounded quality to the notes.
@UR2Compliant
@UR2Compliant 7 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, 'tone' mostly comes from how you (the player) actuate each note. Density of the the wood (giggity) plays a big part, so do pick-ups, amps, effects...way too much to even make the simple statement that one "sounds 10x better", because of one or two elements, like, choice in guitar and what "sounds better", is only relative.
@nunofrg
@nunofrg 7 жыл бұрын
ofc, but not in this case, vai is actually a better player than zappa. i mean the high end of vais is kinda fuzzy, while zappas is mid range solid rock, dont know how to explain
