The microphone is placed in the center, and each ot the two channels are being substracted, the bass frecuency is not heard in the center, but the subtraction of both speakers remains. Try it on your own equipment with the same recording, and place yourself between the left and right speakers. The difference will be very clear to you. You can use headphones too, and you will notice that the bass «runs away» from the central listening area. No need a stratospheric equipment; any simple music system is valid.
