The late Ricky Nelson had a hit back in the late 1950’s called, My Bucket’s Got A Hole In It😂!! My big sister had a little red and white suitcase record player, and she just about played that dad blamed song to death🤣! Robert, you look just like a picture of a Confederate soldier I saw in a history book years ago. I came across your wonderful channel and for some reason, that resemblance was one of the reasons I subscribed. I keep on thinking that if I watch you long enough, I’ll finally remember the name of that book from long ago! I know it had something to do with Matthew Brady or another war photographer from the same period who I think had the last name of Gardner. I’m a Civil War buff, I’m afraid. I also want to commend you on the respect that you and your friends show when you visit the old graveyards. You men are truly remarkable in that respect, and I’m thankful that your mamas raised y’all right, God bless them! You said recently that you’ve been sick and you have been having a couple of other problems in your life, including family problems, and Robert, I truly believe that God will get you through it, and this old Christian lady will be praying for you👵🏻🙏🏻. God bless you, young Cody, and “the other Robert” who, if I weren’t still hitched to my man, I might be tempted to wink and flutter what’s left of my eyelashes at him😍!!!

The bottomless pot that came up......it is speckled enamel covered steel, commonly known as "granite ware" or "granny ware" since a lot of people back in the day had whole sets of them. What you have looks like it was once a stew pot (and got used for target practice too). Not big enough to be a water bath canner. Good find!

A little before Sesame.Street! "There's a Hole in My Bucket" (or "...in the Bucket") is a children's song, based on a dialogue between two characters, called Henry[a] and Liza, about a leaky bucket. The song describes a "deadlock" situation: Henry has a leaky bucket, and Liza tells him to repair it. To fix the leaky bucket, he needs straw. To cut the straw, he needs a knife. To sharpen the knife, he needs to wet the sharpening stone. To wet the stone, he needs water. But to fetch water, he needs the bucket, which has a hole in it. In honour of the song, people celebrate National Hole in My Bucket Day on May 30 every year.[5] "There's a Hole in My Bucket" Nursery rhyme Published circa 1700

Did Harris County GA see much action during the Civil War? 1827 is early architecture, American Colonial. Was it originally built as a one story or did you see evidence of a crooked or sharply turned staircase? Finding the original flooring would be great. Did you find the round wooden pegs hammered into square holes? That's great news it was built prior to 1830!

I grew up in a late Victorian farmhouse and the well behind the house, the one in the Yankee cellar and across the street in our chicken coops cellar , were all hand dug and lined with brick. and I'll always wonder what was in them after watching this episode. Cheers, Rik Spector

There is a lot of silt and sand that gets deposited in the bottom of these wells and most of the stuff gets sucked into it pretty quickly. Most of the old stuff is deep in the layers of this slurry and magnets won't be able to pick them up.

I'm sure well was not dug by hand. In the 1800s they had a boring machine that was turned by a horse. The reason I'm suggesting that is, that my grandfather had a boring rig. My dad still has it. The last time I used it was in 1992.

My in-laws had a well just like this in Kennesaw GA in the early 80's. My wife's brother let the bucket down one night, only to realize too late, that there was a cat asleep in the bucket! I am sorry to say it did not make it. My father in-law got a two-man winch and tied a rope around his waist, and his sons lower him down. He used a hoe to retrieve that poor cat. When he got back up, he poured bleach in the well. :(

Since the water is so clear y’all should send down a GoPro with a light. I’ve always wanted to do that. Since it’s so narrow of a space have it facing downward to view the bottom. I think about doing this with all wells I come across.

Our indoor cat once ventured next door and got himself wedged between the metal fence and their shed. He was too afraid to go into the open space of the yard so stayed there meowing helplessly at us. We tried attaching an extension cord to a laundry basket and threw it over. The clever thing hopped in like he knew we were rescuing him. :) Thought I'd share since it would work for pits and such too.
