I think it's just layered much better. I just listened to one after the other and the original has the lyrics and music in sync like you'd expect, but a pause in the music is also a pause in the lyrics and such. With this version, the peaks and pauses of the lyrics and music alternate, allowing them to shine more on their own and leaving no real breaks in the song. It also helps that it still harmonizes well of course, credit to the editor.
