Very good tutorial. As you say these are easy to fit, but not so easy to fit "perfectly". I fitted one quite recently on a very awkward door (internal framed so I had to add blocking for the catch). The cupboard was very large so rather than make life difficult I took my tools and a torch and sat inside the cupboard with the door closed to do the fitting, worked a treat!

To fix magnetic catcher, which is the best location or position to fix i.e at top,middle(almost half the ht,as you have fixed for the cabinet door in this video) or at bottom of the door of a room you would recommend? (say door size be approximately 1m×2.1m or greater )
@10MinuteWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
On a door that tall I’d try and get them central as it reduces the amount of flex in the door before the catch releases. I try to avoid the bottom as they’ll always get in the way. 👍👍

Hidden for inside magnetic push latch… suggestions for hidden hinge? Thanks
@MrLovblad5 жыл бұрын
Have you tried "invisible" magnetic catches using just two flat magnets drilled and glued into the mdf? Especially with the second door where you would mount one on the thin end of the door and then just paint over them and they would be more or less invisible. With the new neodymium magnets you can find those that are just a milli thick and still have quite the strong pull, especially in pairs. I always feel a little awkward when things are protruding in the cabinet. They are always in the way either for your hand when taking things in or out or when you are moving around the shelves. Nice video as always :)
@10MinuteWorkshop5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. TBH I rarely use mag catches as I'm usually using concealed hinges (self-closing) so I've never had the need for the invisible neodymium magnets, though it's a good trick to have up your sleeve, certainly. 👍

Cheers Peter, I've just made some new wardrobe doors (2 doors per opening) 1900mm H with flush hinges and was wondering if these would be ok as can only mount top or bottom. But also don't want a noisy close every time their shut, is it possible to marry these with a soft close fitting of some kind ?
@10MinuteWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
Not soft-close, but the hafele touch latches I show in video #380 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKqmlXl5ob2Ihbc - are quieter than the usual magnetic catches. If you want actual soft-close, then concealed hinges are your best bet, see video 348, Concealed hinges - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXzbmpyBg9Cegs0. 👍👍

Nice video, I would like to know if there is any way to reduce the noise from magnets while opening and closing the door. I have a lot of cabinet at home that use magnets and they make a lot of noise, which is very annoying 😕
@10MinuteWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
That can be quite ‘clacky’ and a lot of that comes from the movement of the magnets in the fixed part. A better quality catch is better for this, and you can glue a leather or vinyl strip over the metal plate in the door to help reduce the noise more. You’ll need to adjust the catches to allow for the thickness of the leather. 👍
@tejask48892 жыл бұрын
@@10MinuteWorkshop Thanks I was thinking about the same, will give this a try 😊
@MatthewBuntyn5 жыл бұрын
Why'd you mount the catch in the middle, instead of horizontally at the top?
@10MinuteWorkshop5 жыл бұрын
Force of habit, really. On a bigger door The door will twist slightly every time you open it if you mount the top/bottom, whereas in the centre it’s a more even pull force 👍

@hazelc59453 жыл бұрын
Would you advise only putting them in the side? I was thinking of putting mine on the top so they're more out of the way 🤔
@10MinuteWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the size of the door, and where the cabinet is located. If it’s a taller door and high up, then the flex in the door can make them awkward to open, and if you put them on the base then they can get in the way of you’re trying to get things in and out above head height. 🤷♂️👍
@hazelc59453 жыл бұрын
@@10MinuteWorkshop it's a 56cm x 58cm door, on the ground so a bottom latch wouldn't get in the way, but my kids would likely ram stuff into it 😂
@kenrodriguez96454 жыл бұрын
How do you size the weight of the magnets to the size of the door? I see 6lb, 15lb, 20lb magnets on amazon. I've got a small cabinet door like a 16 x 16 door. What kind of pull do you think is appropriate. 20lb is super common, but that's like 1.5 bowling balls - seems like a lot! I thought 6lb would be right for a door that size. or is 6 lb for more like a drawer.
@10MinuteWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
These were 6Kg catches - about 13lbs; they work pretty well for a door of this size. 👍
