Hi Roy, the buckeye couplings are for the coaches mate.

Yea, they would be fine on them. It's basically anything looks better than the tension lock and if you regularly remove stock from track the magnetic couplings are much easier to disconnect. I was really just testing strengh and reliability. Thanks for your imput.

The Hornby Buckeyes are also polarised. Their plastic moulding is different top side to bottom side, which Hornby fail to mention. All must be inserted into the NEM pocket the same way up, to guarantee they work in any coach formation.

Nasty, that's why I have nothing hidden and nothing out of reach. Apart from Kaydees, they still haven't found a viable alternative to the tension lock Yes, there are Roco and Fleishmann but their couplings have a consistent coupler height which our manufacturers can't seem to master. Over time the magnets will fade, really steering clear of them. ATB, Andy (Personal opinion).

Thanks for your comment, always good to hear alternative views.

Hi Andy. Ah, but if like me one takes stock to a Club's layout, magnetic couplings are a boon. Setting up, packing away, derailments etc - all made so much easier to deal with. Also, magnetic couplings are self-aligning, so none of the droopy misalinging Hejan or KR Models nonsence to deal with. Even droopy ones will lift themselfs & align upon the approach of a mating magnet.

Hello Roy that was a expensive test you done there you live and learn every day hope it don’t put you off magnetic couplers there the way to go cheers Al

We learn from our mistakes. It won't put me off magnetic couplings😉

Nice video. Have you thought of installing a circuit breaker to the layout to protect your decoders?

Sounds like a good idea👍

Hi Roy, Interesting experiment and an easy way to try them but do wonder if because they are not held firmly in a NEM pocket the pull is not even so thinking about it if one set of the hunts was put at one end of a wagon or coach and the hornby in the other end and then coupled to an engine at each end and with dcc sent in opposite directions this would be a fairer test what do you think of course the engines may not have enough pull to break them apart but would be a fun way of trying. I am so sorry about your decoder does your system detect a short and shut off the power instanly as this may have prevented this expensive upsetting problem but even with my system which is great as was the Elink at shuting the power off I still have had 3 tts ones go why I have no idea. Keep well and safe. Cheers Robert.

Interesting idea Robert, might be worth looking into. The power did cut out with the short, I suppose some things are more sensitive than others and didn't cut out quick enough.
