Physics Ninja looks at the magnetic field generated by a Helmholtz Coil. I use the result derived in a recent video for the field produced from a single loop and use the superposition to find the total field produced by both coils.

FANTASTIC exposition. The best of the many Helmholtz coil videos out there. Thank you SO much! It would be so awesome to build on this exact foundation to (a) show how to calculate the magnetic FLUX through an area positioned at Zo and perpendicular to the coils, and then (b) calculate the magnetic FORCE on a small metal object placed at Zo. The units of measure between magnetic field, flux and force are SO confusing - a couple of videos sorting this out would get massive response I expect.

Wow just great... Need that kind of knowledge for my final exams in physics and in the language from the country I live in, which is Germany, I couldn't find one good video which explains this kind of stuff. Searching for it in english: A guy named "Physics Ninja" made a 23 minute long video about it with good quality and pictures that are easy to understand... Thank you, man!

How would I substitute a flat coil for a helmholtz? I have a LF oscillator of between 1 to 30hz, amplified with the output going to a 14.3uh coil, 18 turns, 3.2cm diameter. How is inductance affected by a series or paralell helmholtz?

What is the equation when the currents in the coils have the opposite orientation?
@Greg_Chase
@Greg_Chase Жыл бұрын
We use Helmholtz coil pair for the uniform field it creates through a lamination (a series of layers) of 10Mhz aluminum foil/insulator layers The planform is: (1) a circular foil (2) a circular insulator (3) 10 layers of those The Helmholtz coils are one atop the other with a gap in between so that the B field is oriented vertically, and the 10 Mhz foil lamination (layers) are positioned in a horizontal plane between the pair of HH coils. We add another coil adjacent to, but not touching, the foil lamination and feed it with 10Mhz - this induces eddy currents in the foil (Faraday's law of induction) at a frequency of 10Mhz. People say "sounds like some kind of antenna" - partly true because the device creates accelerations of the charged particles in the foil, and antennas create accelerations of charged particles to develop/propagate electromagnetic waves, But in this case, the B field is vertical, the eddy currents are horizontal, and we have 90 degrees between the B and current flow, which causes the Lorentz force. The Lorentz force acts on the eddy currents in the foil lamination (layers) and creates coherent accelerations of the charged particle at a 10 Mhz rate. Why 10Mhz? Because that is the skin depth of store-bought aluminum foil. If you figure out why we are pursuing high frequency coherent accelerations in this manner, you are a rare individual indeed.

So it's like sound or water waves and they are going in the same direction. Each wave adds to the other. So, if you pushed the magnets together, the point of highest strength would remain in the middle, but as the peak strength of each magnet got closer, the peak strength would rise until the magnets met and peak strength of double the magnet strength. Inversely, as the move apart, the point would stay the same but the total power would decrease. I assume that at the point when the point when the combined strength got close to or maybe as it moves lower than the peak strength of each individual magnet, the point of strength in the middle would divide into two points that would rapidly separate as each magnet moves further apart until neither magnet affects the other and the point of strength returned to the middle of each magnet. I don't know, just surmising based on what I saw
