Rather than having to crank so much at one point, you could also lower the opposing corner half of the same amount... A torpedo level would get most of the base calibration right without having to deal with the top slinging off. Then you'd just have to set the top itself.

You'd think so, however in practice not so simple. Level is a good place to start but it's the gravity and magnetic repulsion that it reacts to. What this means is that it changes very slightly through out the day also humidity. This toy is super finicky. Every day a new challenge, but once you find the sweet spot it's amazing. This is why the legs are adjustable and so is the weight. If your lucky things will remain constant for up to an hour. Put it in a vacuum with controlled climate and it will spin indefinitely.

Can we creat levitation without the spin? And are the wahsers made of any certain medal? Did you have to put washers on the bottom side of the spinner?
@QsciExp
@QsciExp 4 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, levitation without spin is possible; But not in this setting. The washers are only used as weights. Washers are placed from the top.

If the spinning thing have a stronger magnet, will it levitate higher?
@QsciExp
@QsciExp 2 жыл бұрын
Not really. There is a very delicate balance between the spinners' magnetic strength and the magnets inside the base.

does this only work if a spinning top is the object? or does it have to be spinning?
@QsciExp

Yes, it has to be spinning in order to levitate. Take a look at 5:00 for explanation.

While I agree it’s not the ceramic shown.. I actually believe it to be 4 circular neodymium magnets of the same diameter as the top but with additional thickness and or smaller Diameter neodymiums under and above each for 12 magnets in the base, the smaller and or thickness giving them stronger pulls. Still same directions of polarity, this would explain the design with the adjustments for I’d imagine a circular ceramic requiring far more precise adjustment

I do not agree with the magnetic loops drawings arround the spinning ring magnet (loops drawings located over the magnetic field lines created by the black ferrite big magnet) These thoroidal field lines are created by the neodimium ring magnet, really, BUT they do not add to the field lines created by the ferrite magnet. That addition reflects the actual magnetic field shape BUT cannot be considered so, when predicting the FORCE between the two magnets ! The neodimium magnet receive solely the force of the magnetic fielc created by the big ferrite magnet BUT DO NOT RECEIVE ANY FORCE FROM THE MAGNETIC FIELD CREATED BY HIMSELF !
