Anyone who tries to dismiss Erik’s choices as maniacal has no idea how PTSD works. Living and experiencing a genocide of your own people is not something people can just ‘get over’ which is frequently said in the fandom.

This is one of the best videos I have ever watched in my life, and Magneto is one of my favorite characters. Gonna keep following, sharing around, recommending to friends. As someone with C-PTSD and OSD from child abuse & institutional transphobia it made me happy to see Erik made justice this way (especially the end and referencing Marsha - instantly thought of "I may be crazy but that don't make me wrong"). My pains and their causes are really different, but I recognize a lot of the symptons AND I'm just so glad that this video expressed too well that some of them are useful for surviving an oppressive world. Thank you a thousand times

The first time I saw young Eric get pulled from his mother at the camps made me not think of him as a true villain growing up. He’s scarred and scared that it’s going to happen again because of his powers now instead. Lovely to see others think of him in more nuance

This video actually helped me understand bpd and c-ptsd a lot more, and put (more specifically bpd,) into the context of how people with it experience it, and it’s really helped me to understand better. So thank you:))❤️💜 (Literally everything that you’ve said in this video is 100% correct too btw hehe)

this video is so well done ! I loved it! as someone who also has PTSD and bpd I've always seen myself in him in a way and the way you explained everything is so well thought out I 0oved the way you talked about how the fandom views erik as over the top or dramatic and how in a way it can be harmful and whenever we speak out on it we get shut down and told not to take it seriously I dont know this was so refreshing thank you for this !

Thank you, that was really informative! I realised I definitely not know enough about PTSD and CPTSD and that I know like nothing on BPD so I guess I'll have to remedy that :) I think it's hugely important to analyze charachters from mental illnesses' perspective, too. It's also important to create cool representation, since we have so much bad representation already and there's still a lot of ableism even in the circles that are otherwise progressive and against discrimination. I gonna try to use some of ideas mentioned in my fanfiction :) I also wanted to say that the video was beautiful and really well-made. Also the structure is clear so it's easy to comprehend and use for future reference. I had one idea though: maybe the chapter titles and tw should be said outloud, so that blind folks or others who are only listening but not watching, could be aware of them? I know it's a common practice on KZbin, but I don't really know why it is so I had some more thoughts but my anxiety got the better of me so I edited them all out. Thank you again for the cool video!

I really enjoyed your video, thank you for making it. The X-Men movies and especially Magneto are subjects I'm highly interested in, I'd say even obsessed with. Surprisingly, for how much I love his character, I never stopped to think about the diagnosis he'd have and I'm glad you put a name on it. I knew his trauma influenced a lot of his decisions but I didn't know there was a difference between cptsd and ptsd and I didn't think that people with bpd could look like him. I'm more knowledgeable about autism and adhd (in my opinion, Charles Xavier could have autism/ autism like behavior that could be explained by his telepathy but that's just a hc). Not only did I like the content of your video, I liked how you edited it. There were a few moments when I laughed out loud. Thank you.

Magneto's mental health is compromised due to his powers and scared from the holocaust. There is a reason why he sometimes becomes a raving megalomaniac of a villain. In a way as his character develops, so has he learned to cope with is trauma, better manage his powers and make efforts to reform is why he has become a well written and admired character regardless if he is a hero or villain.

I absolutely love this video! Question though. What are your thoughts on Erik's time in prison? Are you going to a separate video on this?
@bikenesmith3 жыл бұрын
tysm! aaah i have many thoughts on eriks time in prison. its ridiculous that the writers decided to do absolutely nothing w the extremely taxing experience of a decade of solitary confinement...the impact that must have on an already traumatized person w/ powers like eriks (magnetism, connected to the earth, his prison being underground...), and then being thrust back into a real world, full of sensory overload with a vastly different social landscape...i might talk about that in a video sometime! maybe all the things id change abt the xmcu LMAO
@susanaeaton1793 жыл бұрын
@@bikenesmith Well, I have a headcanon that I tend to put in my magneto fanfiction. Erik starts getting hallucinations mainly of Shaw. Because at the time he is the strongest person he knows. And then when Erik gets out 'shaw' starts haunting him likean evil obi-wan Kenobi. And then after he becomes a horseman Erik gets a darkER yang named "War". It's all the suppressed shit in its own form but with War. It's more of a Jekyll. and Mr. Hyde relationship. Again that's just me.

Seeing as there is no main stream Romany actors and never will be since their truly the last suppressed culture and will likely remain that way, how do you expect them to cast one for any part? since your more likely to find a Romany movie star then you are to find a Jewish Romany they really couldn’t have cast that. So that complaint is really flat out ridiculous. Also all of the Jewish people I know would make fun of someone for using the term “micro aggression” that complaint of slight should be questioned as truly anti-Semitic
@bikenesmith3 жыл бұрын
(re-reply bc i realized this was a reply to a different video than i thought) watch my wandavision and whitewashing video - i name multiple experienced romani actresses in the video. i also mention the power and resources disney has that enable them to seek out actors from the roma community. they could very easily visit the multiple roma organizations that fund roma performing arts, or visit roma communities to find talent. + romani-jewish people with careers in the fine + performing arts most definitely exist (i know this from personal experience). none of these actors need to be mainstream stars - how do you think any of these stars become stars? they start from nothing. disney plucked tom holland from nowhere, and he is now a global sensation. re: jewish microaggressions. i personally know, and know of likely just as many jewish people who use "microaggression" on the daily. people are not monoliths.
@bclr68433 жыл бұрын
@@bikenesmith well I don’t know about your personal experience but I am a romani. There’s only three of us that act. One who plays Johnny dogs in peaky blinders and none of have been Jewish since one of our kids stole a nail meant for Christ. The main problem with casting one of us is also related to the stories that are told. Outsiders tend to tell stories that are as ridiculous and outlandish that make sense. Nobody’s fault. We don’t share our culture with people. Main reason for the discrimination we face in the US. I can tell you none of us feel slighted by this because we don’t share our culture. We greatly appreciate representation like Colima Murphy as one of us because he’s a great actor. That’s what actors do they pretend.
