When Mahadevrin first went to Sueliman's chamber (at this new palace now) when she entered...her eyes quickly went to all the riches and expensive material things in there. When she saw the emerald ring...she thought it was for her....and wanted it then. Sueliman told her it was not finished. He did not say it was for ..her. He himself had not decided...if his mother, Hatice, or even Ayse etc...who he would give it too. He decided on Hurrem...Mahadevrin got mad...ordered it to be stolen...thus into her greedy hands. (later in the series, you will see how Mahadevrin bankrupted the harem.... with her excess spending etc., and how Sueliman tole her, he knew she would.)

Mahidevran’s FIRST issue was just assuming the ring was hers and assuming her son would inherit all of it. She was VERY entitled.

Whatever you think about Muslims now, during the "Magnificent Century" period, the Ottoman Empire was arguably the most progressive in many ways. The fact that they had _women physicians_ who were performing _surgery_ is head and shoulders above most European countries.

Well, since it was forbidden for the women of the harem to be seen by outsider/non-eunich males, it would make sense for the palace to order a suitable medical school to train some women as doctors. No men seeing the harem was quite reasonably a very high priority.

So, there _is_ a report from the Venetian ambassador, Bernardo Navagero, about this supposed beating, but it's worth noting that the credibility of it is often called into account. Mostly because the incident wasn't reported on until at least thirty years _after_ the fact, but also due to how the harem was filled with high-ranking women that all had a vested interest in keeping this from happening. It could've been a disagreement that got embellished through gossip, but an outright fight occurring tends to be disbelieved (along with any idea that Mahidevran was "banished" for a time over it; that's just a fiction invented by fans).

hurrem only loved and respected suleyman no one els, mahidevram is a sad sack always crying infront of her son and she made her son to see only sadness and thats why he grew up almost against his father , hurrem just began to survive and never trusted no one, even her friend betrayed her she was pushing to be a hasseki to !!! so im not happy with what she did some times but mostly did things to survive

I don’t see Mahi as materialistic. I just see her as a woman who feels she is losing her husband. She doesn’t feel chosen. Hurrem knows how to play her cards well. Mahi doesn’t have self regulation or emotional control. Hurrem has better emotional control.

Suleyman was not her husband and she is just a concubine slave. She does have a higher status than the other concubines because she bore a son, but she is still a slave, still a concubine and NOT his wife.

Hurrem was acting like a child since she was one, agreed, and was out of place, but in my opinion Ibrahim and Valide along with Mahidevran treated her poorly from the start too, which made her act out more, They could've just embraced her (Ibrahim and Valide, that is).

Agree. Though i admit that in general i'm more partial to Hürrem because of the degree each of them took their animosity to. Hürrem was mean to Ibrahim while trying to assert herself in a clumsy way. She wasn't looking for ways to bring him down as soon as she could. When she found one, his romance with Hatice, she didn't use it. Ibrahim put her in a sadistic game with a beloved person of hers so either she would die or be traumatized, therefore unwilling to keep pressuring him. Also, i would place the point in which Hürrem definitely perceived him as a threat after she was beaten up by Mahidevran. As of this episode, she was just rude. Making a rivalry from that seems odd. They weren't in the same conditions so seemingly anything one of them did triggered the other's instincts. Note that i may be speaking out of time as im only on episode 3 of my re-watch.

Hürrem realized early that Ibrahim was working with Mahidevran and would always protect her. Ibrahim was a threat to her because he knew how much Suleyman cared for her. She had every right to protect herself

Suleyman wasn’t her husband and she was just an elevated concubine who had his first living son. Suleyman had every right according to dynasty rules to sleep with any concubine in his harem. The only exception would be on the so called Thursday family night. Suleyman after meeting Hurrem realized how shallow and selfish Mahidevran was and how evil she was as well
