I think Hurrem was actually sad and confused about this whole situation. Of course she wanted Mustafa to die for the sake of her own children, but then later, she realized that this particular event sealed an important fact: Suleyman was capable of killing his own children. That’s why this was a constant reminder to her that, despite Mustafa’s death, she had to protect Selim and Bayezid from his father. I think that stress combined with the mourning of Mehmet and Cihangir ended up killing Hurrem.

Hurrem never was Valide Sultana, she was only Haseki Sultana. The title of Valide Sultana had been given when a Sultana sees one (when she lives) of her living son to take the throne. Hurrem never seen no one of her sons to take the throne, neither Selim, nor Beyazid or Mehmet. Hurrem wasn't Valide Sultana, all the mothers called "Valide", but the title "Valide Sultana" was only given to Syleiman's mother, to Mihrimah Sultana and to others. Hurrem was just Haseki Sultana. Neither in Real History, nor at the serie was Valide Sultana and this was a tradition, that means that Hurrem maybe became Haseki Sultana, but she died before Selim take the throne at 1558. Selim took the throne at 1566, so she never became Valide Sultana.

Mustafa was the Heir Prince, he was the bigger son of Syleiman and the future of the Empire, so he had more chances and more possibilities to take the throne. Neither Hurrem liked this or not, that doesn't means nothing. Mahidevran just said that her son was closest to the throne and that was the truth. This was the law and the laws remain as they have (the most of the times). But Hurrem cheated. And she payed for that with Mehmet, Cihangir and in the end with her own life. Also hurrem had more chances to get to the throne since she had three candidates to the throne wheras mahidevran just had one. Also please don't talk about hurrem being punished by the death of her sons, because that's how Ottoman Empire worked, sultan had a lot of children and only one of them makes it to the end the rest always die, whether in the fight for the throne or after loosing it. This happened in every single generation of Ottoman Empire even before hurrem and continued later on as well. This is to me the big problem when making historical films or TV series. From what I have read, Mehmet died of small pox or another infectious disease. There were many of those in that time and many people died. I agree Mustafa was part good but I feel he deserved the fate he got 1. He always tried to break rules-hiding his pregnant concubine, leaving his sanjak, marrying Mihirunisa, visiting Jannisaries & rewarding them w/o Sultans knowledge 2. He was partner in crime of traitors who tried to start rebellion multiple times to enthrone Mustafa. He hid about them although he should have informed sultan jus because he wanted to use their power for the fight of throne. No other prince did that or tired to do. 3. He blamed everything on Hurrem & ignored MahiD fault. He blamed Hurrem even on death of his unborn child & concubine(even when it was as per rules), blamed her for every small thing but never thought of blaming MahiD for mehmets death. 4. He ignored the fact that his mother & other Sultanas conspired with Hatice to abduct Hurrem. They even did black magic on her which was a serious crime. 5. He & everyone always blamed Hurrrm for Ibrahim’s death but again ignored that he tried to kill her multiple times & also hid many attempts by MahiD 6. He favoured Bayezid in all his arguments with Selim because Bayezid supported him for throne but Selim did not. This drove deep wedge b/w the two. 7. He never talked against his mother but wanted Chihangir to do so. 8. Even when Sultan got to know about secret group through his investigation, he was unhappy that the officials were banished & blamed Hurrem(again!). He knew these officials are traitors as they plan to dethrone Sultan but still forgave them as they favoured him. 9. Even MahiD always talked about enthroning him when Sultqn was sick but he still loved her & respected her. Never regarded her as cruel & cunning like Hurrem. 10. At the end his mother & wife tried to start a rebellion & dethrone Sultan, they were traitors too. PS: Hurrem also did many wrong things- black magic on Ibrahim, tried to kill Ibrahim/Mustafa. She tried to play the power game as well but it would never dream about dethroning Sultan.

Just like Hurrem, Fatma Sultana wasn't a common person too. She was Valide Hafsa Ayse Sultana's daughter, Selim Sultan Yavuz's daughter, Sultan Syleiman's sister. It's just a scene, we don't know if in real life this dialogue had done. As for the Sultanas, even if they spoke insolent to each other, the punishment wasn't the dungeon, it was some other kind of punishment and only the Sultan could decide of what it would be. Perhaps ask for forgiveness or something like that. Only Viziers and traitors were locked at the dungeons, not Sultanas and for sure not the sisters of the Sultan.

I love how whenever Mahidevran and Mustafa elluded or outright confessed to trying or wanting to kill Hurrem and her kids, no one said a word. No one was punished. It was no great sin. Meanwhile, Hurrem plots to kill Mustafa, and suddenly, she's the great villain, even if she did it to protect her children. Ultimately, she is right: Suleiman is the one to blame. She planted the seed of doubt, but he gave the order to kill his own son. He protected Mustafa from Hurrem many times before. He could have done it again, but he didn't. There was something inside him that didn't trust Mustafa, and that makes sense. With a conniving, murderous mother like Mahidevran, he probably knew his sons with Hurrem wouldn't survive a single day if Mustafa became sultan. He wanted Mehmed to succeed him, but fate had other plans.
