I am tired of people saying that Mustafa was not trying to rebel and that he was good and loyal. While I do believe he was placed in some bad situations, he almost always made the wrong choices. He openly embraced the support of the jannisaries and stubbornly chose to flout the rules for princes. In the end, I don’t see how Suleyman had any other choice but to do what he did. Yes... I ended up skipping the rest of the first season because of this after watching a few episodes... Only the children seem to be quite reasonable. They have conflicts but not like their parents. Even Ibrahim did some terrible things (such as: killing Hurrem’s former boyfriend/fiance(?) and having Idris Agha (in episode 59 I think) killed even though he didn’t really have anything to do with his and Nigar’s problems. He was just ordered by Suleiman’s mother to watch him). It was quite a relief when I skipped to season 4 and saw the children. The sultan is quite unpleasant to watch because he seems quite foolish and Hurrem and Mahidevran (as well as Gulshah and the others) are obviously very bad.
