exactly. Things and reasons that many people don't understand and will not want to understand. I would choose Selim as well. Bayezid and Mustafa are traitors to their father. They are doing unlawful things (more shameful than the drinking of the wine of Selim) behind the Sultan's back. Many times did bayezid and mustafa did that. The only thing that Selim makes a mistake that is difficult for him to avoid is the drinking of wine other than that, I haven't seen him betraying his father or mother. I have not seen him brought home a free woman (like mustafa did), I never saw him bring an army to challenge the sultan (like what mustafa did), and many more.

If they didn't, I feel like their futures would've been better, Mustafa's especially. Unfortunately in Turkey (Ottoman Empire) it was a Law that whoever ascends the throne, can kill the other brothers. If you watch the Kosem series you will see how cruelly the New Sultan got rid of some 16 or 17 of his brothers. That was the Law there. 🥵

Let's put it this way. Mustafa, bayezid, cihangir, and mirihmah talked back to the Sultan and to hurrem. Only Selim didn't do it. Even if he is shamed in front of people by his parents. He never showed any anger toward them but mustafa, bayezid and cihangir talked back and showed anger toward their parents. He also admits his mistakes which mustafa, bayezid, cihangir, and mirimah don't do oftentimes. Selim never shouts at the sultan and hurrem in front of people but bayezid, mustafa, cihangir have done that. So I will still choose Selim to be next to the throne. If I were the wife of the sultan, why would I choose a next sultan who thinks he is better than my husband? and who brings rebellion to show his anger to my husband? (his father and sultan)? So, imo, mustafa and bayezid really have no right to be the next Sultan. See? their characters were killed. Because that's what is supposed to happen.

The problem is people keep judging the people in this series according to today's standards not according to their time. You just can't compare or put yourself in their shoes. If your 5 kids were threatened to die at any moment their brother becomes king, you would act the same as hurrem probably. Those times were just cruel back then. And the series always shows suleiman's inner conflict that slowly tore him apart which is that between being a good father and being threatened as a sultan. He would be an amazing father if he wasn't the sultan. You just can't put yourself in his shoes. The character is way deeper than being "good" or "bad". And you can see that all he wanted was absolute loyalty but his sons always tried to defy him and do things behind his back. Only selim also showed loyalty to suleiman and was obedient which is why he won.

In real life Hurrem did have a "secret" chamber to listen to the Council meetings. Secret but not for the Sultan as after execution of Pargali Ibrahim Pasha she was the Sultan's main advisor. He didn't trust anyone like he trusted Hurrem. So the producers totally contradicted the real history. The Sultan couldn't be angry at her for something he really permitted and wanted.

@@Idkjk971 I mean....but the obvious solution to that would have been, to kill Mahidevran. I do believe, even Hürrem thought of Mustafa as essentially good hearted and just. Three of the four aunts are out of the picture at this point, Ibrahim is gone...and Fatma isn't quite as aggressively hateful as the others. She wants Mustafa on the throne, sure, but she does seem to have enough affection for her other nephews, to maybe not plot to kill them behind Mustafa's back. As long as they didn't actively threaten him, at least. Mahidevran is the only one paranoid enough, to want them gone, no matter what. I find it really weird, that Hürrem never tried to get rid of her, rather then Mustafa.

Some observations: - Hurrem's gang is never united while everyone serving Mustafa is totally united and not fighting amongst each other. What's the point of Rustem trying to intimidate Sokulu - Why does Hurrem not have a spy at Mustafa's palace? She could have found out about Mihrunisa by now - Hurrem neglects Cihangir and Beyazid and it causes huge issues. She needs to give Cihangir more affection and time, give him a harem or involve him in any other projects so he isn't always busy thinking about Mustafa. Same for Beyazid. Show him more affection and warmth. Keep explaining to him how to be more diplomatic and how he is the fittest one to be on the throne in her eyes. Encourage him to not keep making silly mistakes. It’s not a matter of Suleiman being jealous of his son. He had formally announced Selim to be his heir without room for doubt or question. These people, prominent government officials/ministers, are questioning his will and rebelling by openly calling Mustafa the future Sultan. Mustafa for his part, never discourages anyone from treating him so either and never shows any support for Selim to reinforce Suleiman’s order. Of course this is a dangerous situation. One word from Mustafa and those ministers/whatever could take up arms against Istanbul, or hurt Selim.

And I don't believe, the age difference was ever the issue here. Bali Bey was pretty much the same age as him. Some say older even, although I didn't do the math myself on this. Of course, you can't exactly choose to fall in love with someone. But he wasn't physically repulsive and up to this point, he always treated her with the utmost respect and kindness.
