It was actually very common all over the world at this time. If a city comes under seige women and children could do painlessly. Many women in Europe poised husbands the were force to marry by their family. Also some poison in small does were used as medicine. Even beauty, women put belladonna in their eyes, it made the pupils large and they thought it was pretty. Arsenic was in everything.

It It was very common back then to have a poison. There are several poisons that could be made from natural Botanical tentacles and other things that can slow put you to sleep and slow your heart down till it stops. That's probably what she took. There is also some that can mimic A natural death from a sickness of the most famous is 1 called aqua tafanphnia. It was it was named after it's maker In Italy. She was known for making beauty makeup And youth enhancers. That's how women could come to and get the poison easily. Many women came to it to get it from her to kill their husbands when they were forced into a horrible marriage for an abusive marriage. It took over 45 . Sometimes I kind of wish they didn’t prevent their older relatives. Let’s just put it that way like their aunts and mothers after of course their husbands pass away. To where they could not seek another relationship to live out the rest a lot of lies with something tell me a lot of the excess drama would dissipate if they would allow a lot of the women to actually have relationships. After the fact once their husband has passed the lifetime lied. These women are still young enough to bear children and it’s not their fault that, if they had husbands that were unlucky to be killed one way or the other but to still lock up women and they can’t go nowhere to seek other relations is kinda cruel because very rarely does a woman ever got remarried to somebody else unless they family has salt a new alliance that would benefit the family because I believe if they had another family a lot of the shenanigans would decrease

Sultan Ahmed should have changed the law, allowing a valide sultana to be remarried to the man of her choice after the death of his father sultan. Then this should have been prevented...

He might have at least ignored the affair if Handan had loved someone else, but Dervish killed the previous sultan. He was loyal to Handan above everyone else, even Ahmed - and therefore dangerous to keep around. He would have hurt Ahmed, Kösem or their children without a second thought if they ever became a danger to Handan.
