Magnus Carlsen is a Norwegian chess grandmaster who is the former five-time World Chess Champion, reigning four-time World Rapid Chess Champion, and reigning six-time World Blitz Chess Champion. Arguably the greatest Chess player of all time, Carlsen has held the No. 1 position in the FIDE world chess rankings since 1 July 2011 and trails only Garry Kasparov in time spent as the highest-rated player in the world. His peak rating of 2882 is the highest in history. He also holds the record for the longest unbeaten streak at the elite level in classical chess.
He became a grandmaster at the age of 13, the second youngest in history at the time, and quickly established himself as a rising star in the world of chess. In 2013, Carlsen won the World Chess Championship and has since defended his title multiple times, solidifying his position as one of the greatest players of all time.
Carlsen is known for his exceptional skill in the fast-paced bullet chess format, where he regularly defeats other top players in high-pressure matches. He has been compared to legendary chess players such as Garry Kasparov and Bobby Fischer for his strategic abilities and quick-thinking, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers. His greatest rival in the chess world is American Rapid & Blitz specialist Hikaru Nakamura, against whom he has had many intense battles.
In addition to his impressive track record in competitive chess, Carlsen is also known for his willingness to take on challenges outside of the traditional chess world. He has played chess against artificial intelligence and has even competed in the World Blitz and Rapid Championships, where he won multiple gold medals. In recent times, Carlsen has turned to playing Poker, of which he has had limited success. With his natural talent and dedication to the game, Carlsen continues to be a dominant force in the world of chess and a true legend in the sport.

If Magnus were playing me, and I played 1. d4, and he responded with Nc6, I would think "He probably has something crazy in mind for if I push d5."

0:46 Magnus’ knight is trapped by pawn b4, am I right?

No, becasue if he plays b4, his night of c3 is hanging while his rook is under attack as well

Why this man gets so often lucky and wins so many games? It baffles me.

He moves out of theory and into a new realm that other players are taught avoid. Chess has become a game of rote theory and prepared moves while Magnus plays on inspiration and creativity. It's not luck. He reads the position and isn't bound by what he ought to do. His whimsy is his strength.

LISTEN to what he says at the end in the Knight vs Bishop endgame - what you hear is a description of technique as a world class chess technician grinds down a weaker player.

How come the environment around him is always smoking free? Doesn't he ever have to fight against tobaco- addicts?

This is chess addiction. Magnus is neither contributing anything to chess by playing all these random games, nor is he enjoying the drill. His bored face reveals that he needs daily doses of chess to remain high. It is a pity that chess has been reduced to this pathetic state of wood pushing by the world's strongest player against the clock.

He's probably GOAT but I think he's very bored with chess at this time and in my opinion not doing the game any favors. He is still young, has money. Maybe time to do something else?
