Magnus Carlsen wins US$60,000 | Closing Ceremony of Weissenhaus Freestyle Chess GOAT Challenge 2024

Magnus Carlsen won the first ever Freestyle Chess GOAT Challenge 2024 by beating Fabiano Caruana in the finals. Second place went to Fabi, Aronian took the 3rd spot and Nodirbek went home with 4th. Qualifying for the tour was Alireza Firouzja, who finished 5th. He obviously has the most complete and accurate knowledge about chess. As for pure playing ability, it's tough to call him the best. He may be up there with the likes of Lasker, Capablanca, Rubinstein or Alekhine, but he certainly wouldn't have an easy time against them.

I mean, it's not as if he left his vast knowledge about the game in the cloakroom. I even watched a video where he discussed the game with Aronian, casually mentioning that he analyzed a couple of possible starting positions with the engine.

Let me fix 1- magnus has 2020 saint louis chess960 championship 2- magnus won 2018 fischer WORLD championship ( you can check ) against hikaru in finals 14-10 3- wesley has 1 Fischer world championship, other years he didnt even make it out of group stage. 4- all fide championships were rapid 5- magnus has one 2nd place and one 3rd places, so he is more decorated against wesley 6- magnus vs wesley so head to head is: 68-31

Many thanks for this content. This event seemed liked a whole load of fun, like chilled and relaxed for the players. The environment seemed so right. I was wondering about those jackets thinking it must've been somebody's idea, and then the host gave thanks to the players for wearing them. Magnus is a little over 5’10. But yes, there are strong limitations observed in regard to high IQ in tall individuals. Although there is a hight correlation up to a certain point, gravity doesn’t allow for extreme cognitive abilities after a certain point. That’s why the most gifted men (Intelligence wise) were all around 5’6 - 5’11. One notable exception tho was Nicola Tesla at 6’2

Depending on the source I have seen Magnus height as 5' 9" to 5' 11", so I'm gonna say he is probably 5' 10". But Fischer was 6' 1", Kramnik is 6' 5", Alireza seems to be quite tall too (I'm guessing around 6' 1"). I'm surprised by how short Fabi is, he is 5' 6", I thought he was around the same height than Magnus

Me da la sensación de que los torneos de ajedrez los organizan gente que no sabe. Teniendo en cuenta que es un torneo importantísimo, da la sensación de que todo es muy improvisado. Las ceremonias son un desastre. Es como que cualquier señor con plata pueda organizar un torneo y no tienen ni idea. Esto le quita valor a la competición y al deporte....
