I felt the same. I even commented so. It felt like Anand didn't do enough to handle the situation. And here it seems like Magnus even talked to him, but he still didn't do much as Fide vice president. But issue was - other players HAD been fined for the same violation. And then to allow Magnus would be unfair.

people don't understand that magnus objection is really better than nepo's doing what they ordered when the rules loses its idea, it become useless... magnus clothes were actually appropriate.. and this is what the rules want it isn't about clothes items like jeans or whatever... so rules shouldn't be done literally... the second point... magnus didn't even say no he just said ok i ll pay the fine and change it tomorrow.. and there is only one game left today so it seems to be they did that as punishment for his freestyle chess tournament...

There's a problem of over the board cheating that none other than Magnus himself has pointed out. Outfits would matter in such cases and I see no problem with FIDE enforcing their rules. Rules are there to protect the players and no one is above them. Why doesn't anyone move the rooks along diagonals? Because of rules...
